The band originally consisted of vocalist and keyboardist Ivan Moody, rhythm guitarist Zoltan Bathory, lead guitarist Caleb Andrew Bingham, bassist Matt Snell, and drummer Jeremy Spencer. Bingham was replaced by guitarist Darrell Roberts in 2006, who was then replaced by Jason Hook in 2009. Bassist Matt Snell departed from the band in 2010, and was replaced by Chris Kael in 2011. Spencer then departed the band in 2018 due to recurring back issues, and was replaced by Charlie Engen, making rhythm guitarist Bathory the only remaining founding member of the band. In October 2020, British guitarist Andy James became the band's lead guitarist, replacing Jason Hook.

Get the fuck up
Call me insidious sadistic narcissistic demon child
But tell me what's in a name
To me it's all the same
And no one's ever gonna take my side
I got a predators mind
I'd rather leave it behind
And never let it infect my skull
You want it, you got it, take it
This is war
You want it, you got it, you can keep it
Break it off break it off
You want it, you got it, take it
Mother fucker this is war
You want it, you got it, you can have it
Fuck it all fuck it all
You're desensitized computerized a product of the times
But you just follow along
Always rubbing me wrong
You're so convinced that you are right
Dehumanizing polarizing everything you see
They're just wearing you down
Like a rodeo clown
Or maybe that's just me
You want it, you got it, take it
This is war
You want it, you got it, you can keep it
Break it off, break it off
You want it, you got it, take it
Mother fucker this is war
You want it, you got it, you can have it
Fuck it all, fuck it all
Fuck
I know you better than you fucking do
Ya I've seen your kind before
And I ain't impressed at all
You're a snitch, you're a cheat
You're a liar and a thief
You're the weakest of the herd
And you'll get what you deserve
Falling backwards
Down the hole you go
In the hole you go
You want it, you got it, take it
This is war
You want it, you got it, you can keep it
Break it off break it off
You want it, you got it, take it
Mother fucker this is war
You want it, you got it, you can have it
Fuck it all, fuck it all
You want it, you got it, take it
This is war
You want it, you got it, you can keep it
Break it off, break it off
You want it, you got it, take it
Mother fucker this is war
You want it, you got it, you can have it
Fuck it all fuck it all
Fuck
The song "This Is War" by Five Finger Death Punch is a powerful and intense anthem about standing up for oneself and facing the challenges that come with that choice. The lyrics suggest that the singer is not afraid of being called names like "insidious," "sadistic," "narcissistic," or "demon child." These descriptions are a way of depicting the struggle that comes when trying to take control of one's life. By calling himself these names, the singer implies that he is willing to embrace his darker nature to fight for his own freedom.
The line "dehumanizing polarizing everything you see" suggests that the world has become a polarized place in which it is difficult to take a stand without someone else opposing your ideas. The song encourages listeners to be wary of those who try to manipulate their feelings or opinions with negative tactics. The chorus, "you want it, you got it, take it, motherfucker, this is war," is a call to action to stand up and fight for what is important.
Overall, "This Is War" encourages listeners to take control of their lives, be true to themselves, and not let others dictate their actions or beliefs. It is a powerful song that speaks to the struggles that many people face in their daily lives.
