We acknowledge that humans can disappoint and fail us

But God is always faithful and will never let us down

We hope that this song can shed light on the true nature of Christianity and cause people to become interested

One's who wouldn't even bother excepting our apology
We hope that those who would not normally accept our apologies will consider hearing us out through this song

Christianity's past ain't been perfect
We acknowledge that Christianity has a history of imperfection and flawed humans

Not always pleasant
We recognize that not all experiences with Christianity have been positive

Perhaps in the church
We admit that some of these negative experiences could have happened within the church itself

Some being hurt even in the present
We acknowledge that some people are still being hurt by Christians in the present time

I can honestly say with a sad face
We express sadness and remorse for the past failings of Christians and the harm they have caused

And full of shame
We carry the burden of shame for the wrongs that were committed in the name of Christianity

Some horrible things have been done in Jesus' name
We admit that some terrible actions were carried out under the banner of Christianity

Those who claimed in the past
We are referring to people in the past who claimed to be Christian but acted contrary to Christ's teachings

Some have even shed blood
We acknowledge that some Christians have resorted to violence and shed blood in the past

Others simply felt judge
Some people felt alienated and judged by Christians, which caused them pain

Others they never felt the love
Some people never received the love that Christians were supposed to show them

That believers explained that Jesus freely came to give
Christians are supposed to explain that Jesus came to offer love and salvation

Cause we made 'em feel dead when we said that they would live
We admit that we have caused harm by offering a message of life but making people feel lifeless and unworthy

Even seeing the sin professing Christians fell in
We recognize that there have been instances where Christians have committed sins themselves

Like adultery, lies, money launder and sipping gin
We are listing some of the common sins that Christians may have committed

Backstabbing, rape, racism the list goes on
We acknowledge that there are many other types of sins that Christians may have committed

But at the end of the day
Despite all these wrongs, there is still hope

All we can say is that it's wrong
We assert that these sins committed by Christians are wrong and unacceptable

And I know that a song can't take away all of the pain and the hurt
We recognize that a song cannot fully address all the negative experiences people may have with Christianity

That you experienced when you first came to the church, but...
We acknowledge that some people may have had negative experiences when first encountering Christianity

Please allow me to say some give the Faith a bad name
We admit that some Christians give the entire religion a bad name due to their negative actions

And they counter with Christ consequently should bring change
As Christians, we should strive to make positive changes in our actions and behavior

Jesus said it like this: You can tell a tree by its fruit
We are referencing a quote by Jesus that states you can judge a person's true character by their actions and behavior

If I plant an apple seed and a seed takes root
We are using a metaphor to illustrate how our actions can produce good or bad results

And it dies in the ground
If the seed does not grow, it is a sign that something went wrong

Then apples are produced
If the seed grows, it produces fruit

I ain't trying to be deep
We are not trying to sound profound or philosophical

I'm just trying to speak the truth
We are simply trying to convey the truth

So perhaps in your case you encounter one of the fakes
We are acknowledging that some people may have encountered fake or insincere Christians

Who didn't display none of the fruit of Jesus' grace
These insincere Christians did not display any of the positive characteristics associated with Jesus and his teachings

And it shattered your world and everything was destroyed
These negative experiences may have caused people's faith to be shaken or destroyed entirely

You left Christianity
Some people may have left Christianity altogether due to these negative experiences

And was spiritually unemployed
Some people may feel spiritually lost or adrift after leaving Christianity

You were working for the Lord
Some people may have been actively involved in church or religious activities before leaving Christianity

Your experience killed your joy
These negative experiences caused people to lose their sense of joy and fulfillment in their faith

So now you ignore
Some people may now ignore any mention of Christianity or God due to their negative experiences

Any mentioning of the Lord
They may choose to avoid any mention of God or Christianity altogether

I assure you there were many who are real
We are assuring people that there are genuine and sincere Christians out there

Who resemble the King and sympathize with what you feel
These genuine Christians reflect the love and compassion of Jesus and can empathize with people who have had negative experiences with Christianity

Who will walk with you life on life 'til God heals
These genuine Christians are willing to walk alongside people and support them until they experience God's healing and restoration

That's if you're sincere
However, this healing and restoration can only happen if people approach it with sincerity

I guarantee that He will
We are confident that God will bring healing and restoration to those who seek it

He will for real
This healing is not just a hypothetical or abstract concept, but a real and tangible experience

My last request
As we finish the song, we have one final request

Don't take your pain out on Christ
We urge people not to direct their anger or frustration towards Jesus

Yea people'll fail you
We acknowledge that humans will disappoint and fail us

But never in His life
However, Jesus himself never failed or disappointed anyone

Has He ever broke a promise
Jesus has always kept his promises and remained faithful to his followers

I promise He never will
We promise that Jesus will never break his promises or fail his followers

These are not my words but the ones in His will
We are not expressing our own opinions or ideas, but conveying the message of Jesus and his teachings

Have you looked at His life and seen the way we treated people?
We urge people to examine the life of Jesus and how he treated others as an example of how Christians should act

He stood for what's right
Jesus always stood up for what was ethical and just

Was just plus He judged evil
He acted with fairness and condemned evil behavior

He healed the sick, the lame, plus He fed the poor
Jesus demonstrated compassion by caring for the marginalized and those in need

The perfect person
Jesus was without flaws or faults

What person could ever ask for more?
What more could one ask from a perfect role model?

But greater than these things
However, there is more to Jesus than just his exemplary behavior

He came to die for sin
Jesus died on the cross to save humanity from sin and its consequences

The spiritually dead state that sin threw us in
Without Jesus, humanity is spiritually dead and separated from God due to sin

But because He's the God-man He's able to forgive
However, because Jesus was both fully God and fully human, he is able to forgive humanity for their sins

People like us and enable us to live
This forgiveness enables people to live the abundant life that Jesus promised

The most unique person to ever exist in human history
Jesus is the most remarkable and significant person to have ever lived

Has taken the time to reveal to us this mystery
Jesus has revealed the mystery of salvation and eternal life to humanity

That we too can be apart of this plan
We urge people to join in this plan of salvation that Jesus offers

Cause He loves us
Jesus loves humanity and desires for them to experience divine love and grace
