Beautiful Girl
Flight of the Conchords Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well, looking 'round the room, I can tell that you
Are the most beautiful girl in the room
In the whole wide room

And when you're on the street, depending on the street
I'll bet you are definitely in the top three
Good looking girls on the street
Depending on the street

And when I saw you at my mate's place
I thought, What is she doing at my mate's place?
How did Dave get a hottie like that to a party like this?
Good one, Dave, ooh, you're a legend Dave

I asked Dave if he's gonna make a move on you
He's not sure, I said, "Dave, do you mind if I do?"
He says, he doesn't mind, but I can tell he kind of minds
But I'm gonna do it anyway

I see you standing all alone by the stereo
I dim the lights down to very low, here we go

You're so beautiful, oh, you could be a waitress
You could be an air hostess in the 60's
You're so beautiful, well, you could be a part-time model
And then I seal the deal, I do my move and dance the robots

It's 12:02, just me and you
And seven other dudes around you on the dance floor
I draw you near, let's get out of here
Let's get in a cab, I'll buy you a kebab

And I can't believe that I'm sharing
A kebab with the most beautiful girl
I have ever seen with a kebab, oh yeah, yeah

Oh, why don't we leave? Let's go to your house
And we can feel each other up on the couch
Oh, no, I don't mind taking it slow
No, yeah

You're so beautiful
You're so beautiful
Well, you're like one of those girls
I've definitely been talking to in the chat rooms

You're so beautiful
Wildslutangel22@yahoo
You're so beautiful
Like a tree or some nice ceramics or something
Or like a high-class prostitute, a high-class prostitute
A high-class, high-class

Oh, so beautiful
Well, you could be a part-time model
Well, you'd probably still have to keep your normal job
Part-time model

But I can see you at an auto show dancing on a car
Part-time model
Oh, you spending part of your time modeling

And part of your time next to me, next to me
And I suppose the rest of the time doing your normal job

Overall Meaning

The Flight of the Conchords's song "Beautiful Girl" is a humorous tribute to a stunning woman who the singer finds himself drawn to, despite her being in a room full of other people. He can't take his eyes off her and describes how she is probably the best-looking girl in the whole room. Even on the street, she would still rank in the top three. When he sees her at a friend's party, he can't believe that such a beautiful girl is hanging out with his friend Dave at such an unremarkable party.

The singer then proceeds to hit on her, to Dave's obvious chagrin. He tries to draw her attention with his sweet moves and even goes as far as buying her a kebab. The girl agrees to leave with him, and the singer lays on some more smooth moves, assuring the girl that he doesn't mind taking it slow. He cannot believe his luck that he is with such a beautiful girl, whom he likens to a high-class prostitute and a part-time model.

The song is tongue-in-cheek and satirical, making fun of the idea that a person's worth is based on their looks. It also highlights the absurdity of attempting to romanticize another person purely based on their appearance. The Flight of the Conchords's signature comic style is evident throughout the song, with many hilarious observations and witty remarks.

A part time model
Spending part of your time modelling
And part of your time next to me
And the rest of your time doing your normal job
My place is usually tidier than this

The fact that this show didn't have more seasons or their full length film is criminal. Such a great comedic series with minimal characters.

Joe Ratchford

Yeah, I understand Bret and Jermaine were burned out after acting in, writing and doing the music for two seasons of TV and didn't want it to get stale, but I'd love a revival season or a movie!

Burak Eren

@Joe Ratchford i'd love that so much.

Patrick Sullivan

It would not work now. Their robust naivety was crucial.
