On The Mend
Foo Fighters Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

One more day that I've survived
Another night alone
Pay no mind, I'm doing fine
I'm breathing on my own

I'm here
And I'm on the mend
I'm here
And I'm on the mend, my friend

Wake me when the hour arrives
Wake me with my name
See you somewhere down the line
We're tethered once again

I'm here
And I'm on the mend
I'm here
And I'm on the mend, my friend

I'm here
And I'm on the mend
I'm here
And I'm on the mend my friend

Was it you?
Sad and alone
Here we go

Close your eyes and stay a while
But take me where you go
Single file, we walk the mile
Who's wandering back home

I'm here
And I'm on the mend
I'm here
And I'm on the mend, my friend

I'm here
And I'm on the mend
I'm here
And I'm on the mend, my friend

Was it you?
Sad and alone
Here we go
Here we go

Here we go
Here we go

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "On The Mend" by Foo Fighters explore themes of survival, loneliness, and the healing process. The opening lines convey a sense of perseverance and resilience, as the singer reflects on another day that they have survived and another night spent alone. Despite this loneliness, the singer is quick to reassure their audience (and themselves) that they are doing fine and can breathe on their own.

The song then pivots to a theme of reunion, with the singer expressing excitement about seeing someone "somewhere down the line" and feeling connected once again. This could be interpreted as a message of hope, as the singer acknowledges that even when things are tough, there are people who care about us and want to support us.

The final lines of the song introduce a sense of ambiguity and uncertainty, as the singer questions whether the person they are talking to was "sad and alone" as well. This could suggest that the song's themes of survival and healing are not unique to the singer, but are shared by others as well.

Overall, "On The Mend" is a moving and introspective song that encourages listeners to embrace their own healing process while staying connected to the people around them.

Not a lot of people know that DG wrote this when TH was recovering from an overdose years and years ago. Today, having known of Taylor's passing, listening to this just hits so much harder. A truly sad day, where I carry a heavy heart. Rest easy, legend 🖤

Hearing the story behind this song, I know Dave says it's "about Taylor" but I really think it's about how Dave himself was "On The Mend, My Friend" after hearing that Taylor would recover when he was in that coma. It shows what they mean to eachother, what the whole band mean to each other in the Foo Family and what the band means to us, their fans. Music won't be the same for me again. RIP Taylor

don't do a Howard Stern and make up your own story when Dave's already written it.

RIP T. 💔

@OldManArmStrength that's neither clever or funny. Now is not the time to laugh. A beautiful soul is gone and will never be replaced. Grow the eff up!

OldManArmStrength

@Mark Lonidier Ho HO...misspelling his name to be clever...yuk yuk....what a barrel of laughs...
