Double Vision
Foreigner Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Feeling down n' dirty, feeling kinda mean
I've been from one to another extreme
This time I had a good time, ain't got time to wait
I want to stick around till I can't see straight

Fill my eyes with that double vision, no disguise for that double vision
Ooh, when it gets through to me, it's always new to me
My double vision gets the best of me

Never do more than I really need
My mind is racing, but my body's in the lead
Tonight's the night, I'm gonna push it to the limit
I live all of my years in a single minute

Fill my eyes with that double vision, no disguise for that double vision
Ooh, when it gets through to me, it's always new to me
My double vision always seems to get the best of me, the best of me, yeah

Ooh, double vision, I need my double vision
It takes me out of my head, takin' me out of my head
I get my double vision, oh, seeing double double
Oh, I have double vision, (oh double vision) yeah
Oh I'm getting double vision

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Foreigner's song Double Vision describe a feeling of being on the brink of losing control, of living life to the fullest and feeling the intoxicating rush of it all. The singer talks about how his mind is racing but his body is in the lead, indicating that he's pushing himself to his limits both physically and mentally. He's had a good time and doesn't want it to end, wanting to stick around until he can no longer see straight. The chorus talks about the double vision that he experiences, how it's something that fills his eyes and takes him out of his head. It's always new to him and seems to get the best of him.

The song's lyrics and upbeat tempo are meant to capture the feeling of a wild night out, with the double vision serving as a metaphor for the world-shifting sensation that comes with letting loose. The phrase "double vision" is also a reference to the condition in which a person sees two images of one object, which could be interpreted as a metaphor for the distorted reality of a drunken night.

Interestingly, the song's lyrics were written by Lou Gramm, Foreigner's lead singer, after he underwent brain surgery to remove a non-cancerous tumor. Gramm has said in interviews that he wrote the song shortly after recovering from the surgery, and that the feeling of "double vision" was something he experienced as a result of the procedure.

Foreigner is one of the best rock in roll bands from the 80s 🪨 🎸 👌 👍 ☺

We had so many great bands in the 80s. Sad to see what has happened to Rock and Roll.

Krystal

This song is from the 70s, but your point remains 😉

@venaev  I know, they were even bigger touring band through the 80s

Best pop rock band ever

Xennial 80s Ex-Berner

Foreigner is underrated even by classic rock stans. One of my favorite 80s songs, it was still playing on radio a lot when I was a kid (circa 1992-94).

I remember this song got a lot of buzz , a lot of radio airplay in late 1978. It charted at number 2. They could've gone to number one eventually without the ballads.

UGH!! Yoiu insult millions of fans over decades who LOVE this band by implying they're all "underrated".
