Yes, I flipped the 45rpm record over, and the label said 'instrumental'. This roused my interest, so I played it on my turntable in early 1979 and I was in awe. 40 years later I still am!!!

The name of this song is one variant of the word used in many European countries for "foreigner." Literally translated, it means "across the mountains," and refers to anything foreign, i.e. something that crossed the mountains, especially a northerly wind crossing the Alps. A rather creative leveraging of the band's name.

I saw these guys in concert the Summer of '81 in Binghamton, NY and they rose through dry ice from below the stage playing this song. It was the best entrance to a concert I've ever seen!!

Pretty decent album...not as concise and tight as their debut. I tend to appreciate this song more now than when I was a teenager. Maturity broadens one's musical horizons.

I've been looking for this for years. A friend I haven't seen for years first played it for me when we were driving down a road in Ontario after finishing a job. As was the custom, we had a couple of drinks and a couple of hoots. He plugged in this cassette and said you gotta listen to this. As it started to play we went Past a field of high tension transmission lines. The music made the towers come alive!

Hard to believe this is the same band that did "Waiting For a Girl Like You" and "I Want to Know What Love Is" although only half the original members stayed on by the time they did this song, the Jones-Gramm-McDonald-Greenwood-Gagliardi-Elliott lineup will always be my favorite era of Foreigner

I remember when this album first came out. I heard all the songs, and I loved this see song immediately. Double Vision has a lot of good songs on it, but, this is not just the best, but it's the only instrumental that Foreigner ever did.

Foreigner did another instrumental called "Street Thunder" which was the B-side of the single to "I Want To Know What Love Is", unfortunately "Street Thunder" wasn't nearly as good as this song.

My FAVORITE Foreigner song of all time. I used to have a Jeep Wrangler that I opened up during the sunny days of summer here in the Philly area. One day I was listening to this song on CD turned up to 11, and got pulled over by a cop for playing this song too loud. I paid the $45 ticket. But then I still played this song in the same way the rest of the summer.

One of my fav instrumentals along with "Switch 625" by Def Leppard.."Mr. Scary" by Dokken" and "Ecstacy of Gold" by Metallica..and the best band that ever walked the planet.. RUSH.."Xanadu" and "La Villa Strangiato". Used to play these before my track meets. Just gives you the courage to fight Rocky Balboa..lol..

I liked their "4" album but didn't care for their later albums very much, also on the "4" album which song was more famous between "Urgent" or "Waiting For A Girl Like You", I've thought "Waiting" was the beginning of what Foreigner would sound like in the years to come but it was still a great song.

Oh Goodness, In My near old age (lol) That Brings back a memory or two. If I remember correctly (and thats a Big If) the orginal LP was recorded in quadraphonic so that portions of this song would channel and intensify in various speakers in the room. I don't advocate smoking puna butter (course back in the 80's ours was so much weaker) but if you already do and really want to launch this is a great song for that. You can also enjoy this beauty perfectly straight, not a thing wrong with that

Of course, there would be some people that would say that THIS album (only their 2nd) could still be a greatest hits album all by itself. I think there's only one song on this entire album that I really can't tolerate. All the rest...tolerate...like...or "yeah but this one goes up to 11". (8^)

@73formula Tramontane (part 1) and Tramontane (part 2) on the eight-track tape! If I recall, the fade-out started around 1:25 before the stereo would click to the next track and the song came back on. Even though I was 7 years old at the time, I didn't think it was right that the song was broken up like that.

Yeah, I had the 8track too. I think Back Where You Belong was broken up too. It's funny, cause I bought this for Hot Blooded and Double Vision, but now I hate those, and like everything else. Rock radio is under the impression that their job is to play your favorite songs until they're your FORMER favorite songs! I hate all the hits by Foreigner,and LOVE the album tracks. Is it just me, or did Maroon 5 steal "THIS LOVE" from Love Has Taken Its Toll?????
