Wish You Well
Forever Came Calling Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You reap what you sew, your mouth only lies if you let it
You have to know, you have to know the truth makes you uncomfortable
Beneath it all, your skin and bones lies a soul that's miserable
Switch it up just for once
Have a taste of how you made me feel
Push your luck, bite your tongue
I hope I am too late to save you when you're lying there chocking
No conscience in your brain, your throat is what you're lying there holding
You're perfect in your place, you're cold enough to break this silence
I don't wish you well, if you can't tell I don't wish you well
Don't be, don't be so damn defensive
You know what you did an excuse means you don't regret it.
Less is more, less is more when it comes to the things we can't afford.
A stateline, flight of stairs and the books I read just to be prepared
Switch it up just for once
Have a taste of how you made me feel
Push your luck, bite your tongue
Don't stop until you're done
I hope I am too late to save you when you're lying there chocking
No conscience in your brain, your throat is what you're lying there holding
You're perfect in your place, you're cold enough to break this silence
I don't wish you well, if you can't tell I don't wish you well
Don't be so damn defensive
I don't wish you well
Don't be so damn defensive
I don't wish you well
I don't wish you well
The lyrics to Forever Came Calling's song "Wish You Well" deal with themes of confrontation, regret, and the desire for retribution. The opening lines admonish the subject of the song to drop their defensiveness and confront the truth, acknowledging that it may be an uncomfortable experience. The lyrics suggest that the subject of the song may be living a miserable existence, a fact that is hiding beneath their physical appearance.
The chorus then takes a more confrontational tone, positing the idea that the subject of the song will someday reap what they have sown, implying harm or punishment as a result of their actions. "I hope I am too late to save you when you're lying there choking" and "No conscience in your brain, your throat is what you're lying there holding" are particularly pointed phrases that suggest the subject is deserving of punishment. The lyrics conclude with the repeated assertion that the songwriter doesn't wish the subject well.
Overall, the lyrics of "Wish You Well" are a meditation on the difficult emotions and aftermath of a confrontation, particularly one in which the subject of the song has wronged the songwriter.
