Baby Won't You Please Come Home
Frank Trumbauer and His Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've got the blues, I feel so lonely
I'd give the world if I could only
Make you understand
It truly would be grand
I'm gonna telephone my baby
Ask him won't you please come home
Oh, when you gone
I'm worried all day long

Baby, won't you please come home
Baby, won't you please come home
I have tried in vain
Nevermore to call your name
When you left you broke my heart
That will never make us part
Every hour in the day
You will hear me say
Baby, won't you please come home
I mean, baby, won't you please come home

Baby, won't you please come home
'Cause your mama's all alone
I have tried in vain
Nevermore to call your name
When you left you broke my heart
That will never make us part
Landlord's gettin' worse
I gotta move May the first
Baby, won't you please come home

I need money
Baby, won't you please come home

Overall Meaning

In Frank Trumbauer and His Orchestra's song "Baby Won't You Please Come Home," the lyrics express the singer's deep sense of loneliness and longing for their loved one to return. The singer is experiencing the blues and feels a profound emptiness in their life. They are willing to give up anything just for the chance to make their loved one understand how much they are missed and needed. The singer contemplates calling their baby and pleading for them to come back home. The absence of their loved one has left them worried and sad all day long.

The repetitive plea for their baby to come home emphasizes the singer's desperation and desire for their presence. They have tried in vain to move on and forget their loved one, but they can't help but still long for them. The heartbreak caused by the baby's departure is deep, but the singer insists that it will never break their bond. The lyrics further reveal that the singer's landlord is becoming more demanding, forcing them to find a new place to live by May 1st. This adds another layer of urgency to their plea for their baby to return, as they need financial support. The final line of the song highlights the singer's need for money, further highlighting their vulnerability and longing for their loved one's presence.

Another beauty; Atticus don't you ever sleep? Or have little gremlins loading these videos?

Tim Harding

The muted cornet at 2.00 is probably Bix but the open one at the start is probably Andy Secrest.

Rodrigo Cecchetto

I think is the exact opposite. When is muted is Andy.

Tim Harding

@Rodrigo Cecchetto I have listened again and I am now even surer of my call. So it looks like we can't agree.

Rodrigo Cecchetto

@Tim Harding I've listened it many times, and comparing the solos to other songs, you can tell Bix from Andy for their style of playing. At first I didn't know who was who, but if you compare styles you'd change your mind

Tim Harding

@Rodrigo Cecchetto I have listened to Bix all my life.

Rodrigo Cecchetto

@Tim Harding Alright then
