There'll be some changes made
Frank Trumbauer and His Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

They say, 'don't change the old for the new'
But I've found out this will never do
When you grow old, you don't last long
You're here today and then tomorrow you're gone
I loved a gal for many years gone by
I thought her love for me would never die
She made some changes that would never do
From now on I'm goin' to make some changes too

For there's a change in the weather
There's a change in the sea
So, from now on there'll be a change in me
My walk will be different, my talk and my name
Nothin' about me is goin' to be the same
I'm goin' to change my way of livin' if that ain't enough
Then I'll change the way that I strut my stuff
'Cause nobody wants you when you're old and gray
There'll be some change made

They say, 'the old time things are the best'
That may be very good for all the rest
But I'm goin' to let the old things be
'Cause they are certainly not suited for me
There was a time when I thought that way
That's why I'm all alone here, today
Since everyone of these days seeks something new
From now on I'm goin' to seek some new things too

For there's a change in the fashions
Ask the feminine folks
Even Jack Benny has been changing jokes
I must make some changes from old to the new
I must do things just the same as others do
I'm goin' to change my long, tall mama for a little short fat
Goin' to change the number where I live at

I must have some lovin', or I'll fade away
There'll be some changes made

Overall Meaning

The song "There'll be some changes made" by Frank Trumbauer and His Orchestra reflects on the idea of change and the need to adapt to new circumstances in life. The lyrics express the sentiment that clinging to old ways and refusing to change is not a viable option, especially as one grows older. The opening lines caution against resisting change, noting that sticking to the old will never work. The passage of time is emphasized, with the acknowledgment that life is fleeting, and one must embrace change to keep up with the ever-evolving world.

The lyrics then delve into personal experiences of the singer. They describe a past love that began to make changes that were incompatible with the singer's expectations. This prompted them to realize the necessity of making changes themselves. The belief that nothing remains the same is reinforced, and the need for personal transformation becomes clear. The chorus speaks to the inevitability of change and the need to adapt accordingly.

The second verse further emphasizes the idea that old things are not necessarily the best. The singer decides to let go of the old and seek out new experiences and ways of living. The mention of changing fashions and jokes, even by popular figures like Jack Benny, highlights the ever-changing nature of society. The lyrics express the resolve to conform to the changing norms and expectations of the time.

Overall, "There'll be some changes made" is a song that encourages embracing change rather than resisting it. It highlights the necessity of adapting to new circumstances, whether in personal relationships or in society as a whole. The lyrics convey the notion that change is inevitable, and by embracing it and making the necessary adjustments, one can continue to thrive.

Great record and very Teschemacher-driven!

Glorious recordings!

Michael O'Leary

Love this tune-nice pictures!

Henri de Lagardère

Why are people complaining about the pictures being inappropriate? Displaying female traffic participants who throw their gear about in order to change tires or get other vital parts of the old vehicle going, even in a rather preparatory or seemingly roundabout manner, is not only referring to the title in a highly appropriate but refreshingly ingenious way. Good job, old chap!
