Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Frank Zappa's song "Sexual Harassment in the Workplace" are a satirical commentary on the systemic issue of harassment and abuse in the workplace. Zappa uses sharp and biting humor to criticize the institutions and those in positions of power who perpetuate this problem. He starts by describing the situation and how the victim is subjected to unwanted advances and comments from their superior or co-workers. The verses go on to highlight how common and normalized this behavior is and how the victim is often blamed for their own abuse, while the perpetrator goes unpunished.

In the chorus, Zappa criticizes the hypocrisy of those who act like they care about the issue but do nothing to change the status quo. He sarcastically suggests that the victim should just quit their job and find a new one, as if it is that easy. The song ends with an instrumental section that conveys the frustration and anger of the victim, as they are trapped in this toxic work environment.
