The band first experienced chart success when their second single "Take Me Out" reached #3 in the UK Charts, followed by their debut album Franz Ferdinand which entered the UK album chart at #3. The band went on to win the 2004 Mercury Music Prize and two BRIT Awards in 2005 for Best British Group and Best British Rock Act. NME named Franz Ferdinand as their Album of the Year. From the album, three top-ten singles were released, "Take Me Out", "The Dark of the Matinée" and "This Fire". The band has also received several Grammy Award nominations.
The band is named after Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria whose assassination was one of the main reasons for the start of the First World War. The band decided on the name after seeing a racehorse named Archduke Ferdinand win the Northumberland Plate in 2001, eventually coming to the decision as the alliteration and sound of the name appealed to them.

Anyone In Love
Franz Ferdinand Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Ten thousand volts hit
Where her arm fell accidentally
But she didn't move it
Despite the singing skin
You didn't move yours either did you though?
Never knew anyone in love
Never knew anyone in love
The way that you were
Never knew anyone in love
The way that you were
What other people call passion
Is one frame of your film
One frame seen accidentally
How could a love like this one
Remain among us
It was a love that had to
Had to leave
Never knew anyone in love
Never knew anyone in love
Never knew anyone in love
The way that you were
Never knew anyone in love
The way that you were
Don't be surprised if there's a book about it
Based roughly on a film about it
Something on your TV about it
And, then, now, a song about it
Alright
Never knew anyone in love
Never knew anyone in love
Never knew anyone in love
The way that you were
Never knew anyone in love
The way that you were
Never knew anyone in love
Never knew anyone in love
Never knew anyone in love
The way that you were
Never knew anyone in love
The way that you were
Never knew anyone
Never knew anyone
Never knew anyone
Never knew anyone
Never knew anyone
In love
The lyrics to Franz Ferdinand's song Anyone In Love describes a unique type of love that is hard to come by. The first verse describes an incident where ten thousand volts hit someone on their arm, but they didn't move it despite their singing skin. The lines "You didn't move yours either did you though?" implies that the other person being addressed shared a similar feeling with the singer, a type of emotional shock in love that keeps them still. The second verse explains how "what other people call passion" and "one frame" of the singer's film are simply not enough to describe the love shared between the two people, and the intense love that was present had to leave. The chorus repeats the line "Never knew anyone in love" multiple times, suggesting that the love shared between the two people was indescribable and not easily understood by others.
The final verse implies that the love between these two people was so powerful and intense that it could potentially become the inspiration for a book, film or television show; and indeed, Franz Ferdinand themselves have turned the love into a song.
The lyrics paint a picture of a rare, intense, and passionate love that not everyone is lucky enough to experience. The song is a reminder that true love is not easily defined or understood, and that it can come unexpectedly to anyone, regardless of who they are or where they come from.
