The band first experienced chart success when their second single "Take Me Out" reached #3 in the UK Charts, followed by their debut album Franz Ferdinand which entered the UK album chart at #3. The band went on to win the 2004 Mercury Music Prize and two BRIT Awards in 2005 for Best British Group and Best British Rock Act. NME named Franz Ferdinand as their Album of the Year. From the album, three top-ten singles were released, "Take Me Out", "The Dark of the Matinée" and "This Fire". The band has also received several Grammy Award nominations.
The band is named after Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria whose assassination was one of the main reasons for the start of the First World War. The band decided on the name after seeing a racehorse named Archduke Ferdinand win the Northumberland Plate in 2001, eventually coming to the decision as the alliteration and sound of the name appealed to them.

You Never Go Out Anymore
Franz Ferdinand Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Or hit the Ritz side social
Oh, I’ve invented a drink
A drink I think that could kill you
You never go, oh no you never go
You never go, oh no you never go
You never go, oh no you never go
Oh we could walk down the pie?
Across is the Calvin
Or walk away from a fight
That you might get yourself in
You never go, oh no, you never go out anymore
You never go, oh no, you never go out anymore
You never go, oh no, you never go out anymore
You never go, oh no, you never go out anymore
Well if you have an attack
Inhale my inhaler
Oh if they give you the sack
You would’ve got in anyway
Oh but it’s good to get
Whatever you can get
Oh yes it’s good to get
Whatever you can get
So get it get it get it now
So get it get it get it now
So get it get it get it now
So get it get it get it now
So get it get it get it now
The lyrics of Franz Ferdinand's "You Never Go Out Anymore" seem to describe a state of boredom and monotony in a relationship. The singer suggests different activities to do instead of staying inside all the time, such as meeting in the halls or going to social events at the Ritz. He even mentions inventing a drink that could kill you, possibly as a way to add some excitement and danger to the situation. The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "you never go out anymore" several times, emphasizing the theme of feeling trapped and isolated.
The second verse continues to suggest different activities as a way to break the routine, such as walking down the "pie," which may be a metaphor for taking risks and trying something new. The singer also advises walking away from a fight instead of getting involved, possibly as a way to avoid further tension and conflict.
The last part of the song seems to be a call to action, encouraging the listener to seize any opportunities that come their way and not to waste time. The repeated phrase "so get it get it get it now" suggests a sense of urgency and implies that the singer wants the listener to make the most of their life and not let it pass them by.
Overall, "You Never Go Out Anymore" seems to be about the need for excitement and adventure in life, particularly in a relationship that has become predictable and stagnant.
