Among the group's best known hits are Pura Candela, Los Charcos , El Preso, Cali de Rumba, Son de la Loma, El Patillero, Tania, Charanga Campesina, El Arbol and Cachondea. "El Preso" in particular is one of Colombia's most widely recognized and beloved songs.
The Cartagenan singer Joe Arroyo joined the group in 1973 and performed with the group for several years before embarking upon a solo career. Wilson "Saoko" Manyoma (of Cali, Colombia), formerly of Los Latin Brothers, and singer of El Preso, was also an important member of the band. He has also embarked on a solo career. Some had said that, without Wilson Manyoma's vocals, Fruko y sus Tesos would not have that flavor of Colombian Charanga.
Ernesto Fruko Estrada began his musical career at the age of 15 when he joined the legendary cumbia group, Los Corraleros de Majagual. It was with Los Corraleros back in 1968 that gave Fruko the first opportunity to travel to New York to witness the city's burgeoning salsa scene.

Duka atau bahagia
Mahu pilih yang mana
Hati masih bertanya
Lekas aku mahu jawabnya
Jaga kau hati-hati
Takut ia dicuri
Mungkin akan terjadi
Tapi masih tak pasti
Harap engkau mengerti
Lihat pada indah bulan bintang
Namun hilang bila tiba siang
Dan kerna itu ku rasa bimbang
Untukmu, cintaku
Angin membuaikan rasa rindu
Tapi tak seperti yang selalu
Dan kali ini ku biar berlalu
Rasaku, jadikan hati-hati
Dalam cerita ada rahsia
Rahsia engkau, aku dan dia
Masih aku tertanya
Apa pengakhirannya
Lekas aku mahu jawabnya
Jaga kau hati-hati
Takut ia dicuri
Kelak nanti kau kan patah hati
Mungkin akan terjadi
Tapi masih tak pasti
Harap engkau mengerti
Lihat pada indah bulan bintang
Namun hilang bila tiba siang
Dan kerna itu ku rasa bimbang
Untukmu, cintaku
Angin membuaikan rasa rindu
Tapi tak seperti yang selalu
Dan kali ini ku biar berlalu
Rasaku, jadikan hati-hati
Wahai merpati dua sejoli
Jangan kau terlupa
Ikutkan hati engkau kan mati
Ikutkan rasa, kau binasa
Lihat pada indah bulan bintang
Namun hilang bila tiba siang
Dan kerna itu ku rasa bimbang
Untukmu, cintaku
Angin membuaikan rasa rindu
Tapi tak seperti yang selalu
Dan kali ini ku biar berlalu
Rasaku, jadikan
Jagalah kau hati
Takutkan patah hati
Dan kali ini ku biar
Rasaku, jadikan hati-hati
The lyrics of Fruko Y Sus Tesos's Son de la loma express the two paths in life that one can choose between sadness and happiness. The singer wants to choose, but the heart still has questions that need answers. The advice given is to guard against falling in love too easily, or the heart may be broken. The singer is caught between the beauty of the night with its moon and stars, and the day which fades their beauty. The wind carries the longing for love but not as it used to be, leading the singer to make the heart cautious.
The story in the lyrics contains a hidden secret that involves the singer, someone else, and their lover. The singer is still seeking answers to understand what will be the outcome of this triangle of love. To avoid the risk of getting hurt, the singer advises the listener to be careful with their heart. The song is a reflection of the confusion that people often experience when trying to decide between two paths in their lives, and the anxiety that comes with making choices.
