Ready to Question
Gabrielle Aplin Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Is there something I'm not seeing,
Something you're not telling me,
Cause I've been hearing different stories,
I don't know what to believe.

Is there a reason I'm not healing,
Or am I learning from this pain?
I've had a little trouble kneeling,
I don't know what to believe.

But I'm ready to question, (Oh, Ohh)
That life is a blessing, (Oh, Ohh)
So give me a sign,
I'm a follow it blind,
Is there anyone listening? (Oh Ohh)
Is there anyone listening?
I don't know.

See I've seen devils, I've seen saints,
I've seen the lines between them fade.
I've seen pictures with no meaning.
I don't know what to believe.

But I'm ready to question, (Oh, Ohh)
That life is a blessing, (Oh, Ohh)
So give me a sign,
I'm a follow it blind,
Is there anyone listening? (Oh, Ohh)
Is there anyone listening?
I don't know.

Oh, does there have to be,
Someone telling me,
This time wrong feels right.

But I'm ready to question, (Oh, Ohh)
That life is a blessing, (Oh, Ohh)
So give me a sign,
I'm a follow it blind,
Is there anyone listening?

But I'm ready to question, (Oh, Ohh)
That life is a blessing, (Oh, Ohh)
So give me a sign,
I'm a follow it blind,

Is there anyone listening?
I don't know.

Overall Meaning

In Gabrielle Aplin's song "Ready to Question," the lyrics express a sense of confusion and uncertainty about what to believe. The singer questions whether there is something she is missing or whether someone is not telling her the whole truth. She reveals that she has been hearing conflicting stories which contribute to her confusion. As she reflects on her experiences, the singer questions whether there is a purpose to her pain and if she should learn from it. She admits that although she has had trouble finding faith in life, she is ready to question and find answers.

Throughout the song, the lyrics suggest that the singer is open to exploring other perspectives and beliefs. She has seen both good and evil, but she questions what it all means. She begs for a sign that will show her what to do and wishes someone could give her direction. She acknowledges that she's not sure whether anyone is even listening to her, but she's still open and ready to question whatever comes her way.

Overall, "Ready to Question" reflects the journey of a person trying to find their way in life. It's a reminder that it's okay to question everything, and that sometimes it's necessary to find the answers we're searching for.

This song is really beautiful. I feel like "questioning" and doubting is often frowned upon, but, you know, sometimes you have to struggle with God, fight with Him. She's just asking for the truth. And she's brave for asking that question.

@dracopalidine

It sounds like she's saying "Give me a sign. Am I followin' blind?" instead of what you have in the video.
