She Was The Prize
Gaelic Storm Lyrics

I've lived a long life
And now I'm looking back
It's the end of the road
The last stop on the track
And I smile as think of my true love once more
The light of my life
The one I adore
She, she was the prize
The prettiest girl with the loveliest eyes
She, she was the prize
Shiny black hair and those lovely, those a lovely brown eyes

I met her one night at the harvest fair dance
I longed for a whisper, I hoped for a glance
Then she turned and she smiled and I melted away
And I knew I'd be with her 'till my dying day

She, she was the prize
The prettiest girl with the loveliest eyes
She, she was the prize
Shiny black hair and those lovely, ah those a lovely brown eyes

We lay on the cliffs
And we walked hand in hand
We threw stones at the waves
We drew hearts in the sand
With out warning clouds rolled in and blackened the sun
And when they rolled out
My light she was gone

She, she was the prize
The prettiest girl with the lovliest eyes
She, she was the prize
Shiny black hair and those lovely, those a lovely brown eyes

I've shed all my tears
And I've said my goodbyes
Now I lay myself down
Where my pretty girl lies
And when I awake I'll be on earth no more
I'll be dancing a jig with the girl I adore

She, she was the prize
The prettiest girl with the lovliest eyes

She, she was the prize
Shiny black hair and those lovely, those a lovely brown eyes

Overall Meaning

The song "She Was The Prize" by Gaelic Storm is a moving and beautifully written ballad about a man reflecting on his life and remembering his true love. The singer of the song is an older man looking back on his life, and as he reaches the end of it, he thinks about his one true love, the light of his life, the one he adored. The man is obviously deeply in love with this woman, and from the way the song is written, it is clear that they shared a very special bond.

The song begins by introducing the singer's reflections on his life as he nears the end of it. As he looks back, he thinks of his true love, the prize of his life. He describes her as the prettiest girl with the loveliest eyes, with shiny black hair and beautiful brown eyes. The man then goes on to recount how he met the woman of his dreams at a harvest fair dance. He was immediately drawn to her and longed for her attention. However, when she turned to him and smiled, he was completely smitten and knew that he had found the one he would spend the rest of his life with.

The song then takes a tragic turn as the singer explains that one day while he was with his love on the cliffs, a sudden storm blackened the sun and when the storm cleared, his love was gone. He has spent his life since then mourning her loss, shedding all his tears and saying his goodbyes, and now the time has come for him to join her once again.

Overall, the song is a beautiful tribute to a deep and lasting love that transcends time and distance. The lyrics are poetic and evocative, and the melody is both haunting and beautiful.

Wow this is a beautiful song. I wish I would have heard this before my wedding because this would have been the song we had playing for our first dance as a married couple. I always tell my wife that she is my prize. Gaelic Storm is an awesome band.

This brings back my favorite memories of my Grandparents, especially my Mom's parents. Grandmother was an Irish girl, who moved to Philadelphia from Ireland when she was 16. She married my Grandfather a year later and they were together for a tragically-short 67 year and 7 children (Mom was number 5).

My Dad's parents were married for 55 years.

In both cases, my Grandmothers passed away first and in both cases, my Grandfathers mostly died with them.
