It's December 20th, 2021. I just woke up after dreaming that I was at a music festival, sitting around a big outdoor table with a bunch of traveler-type people, and launching together into an improvised acapella version of "In the Waiting Line" by Zero 7.

It felt so euphorically joyous to sing and make music again, especially together with strangers.

As we finished the song I looked over to my right and saw an older man who smiled and said, "Well done. That was a pretty good rendition."

I then recognized him as one of the band members who wrote the song, laughed, and replied, "Thank you... and thanks for writing such wonderful music."

His eyes lit up, and he responded "Would you like to hear how we wrote it? And then we can sing it again together with the band", gesturing to several band members in the crowd around us.

I laughed, said yes, and we did.

What a lovely dream.

We've all lost so much joy during this pandemic, including the joy of traveling, being together with those we know and getting to know new people, celebrating together, making music / dance / art / stories together, and doing so together without fear.

Sometimes it feels like that joyful freedom and spontaneity may never really come again, or at least not how we once knew it.

It brought a tear to my eyes to feel it again, even if only in a dream.

When I was an infant my family got our brand new minivan stolen right out of the driveway. About a week later the police chased the guy down in the minivan. He crashed it and ran away on foot, they never got him. They gave the minivan back to my dad, and the guy who stole it left a big ash tray and about 30 CDs in there. My mother used to play this song all the time when I was growing up. It became one of "our" songs. I'm 24 now, my adult life hasn't been very easy to me. I don't see my mom anymore, I miss her more than anything I could ever put into words. Good music is ageless, I am 67 now only heard this a few months ago and have fallen in love with zero 7. Lots of people say there nothing to compare today's music , to what ever decade from the past. 2002 when I found Zero 7. It's been forever enshrined into a particular time in my life. A time when I faced immense hardships while no one to support me. I heard this song for the first time as a kid in a Sears department store while my mom was shopping. I'm not sure why but the song kind of made me feel afraid. I have no clue why but I felt alone and sad. It could've just been the simple timbre of the song. As a child, we're always surrounded with energetic pop music. The more carefully crafted, soothing music becomes obscured in the saturated music scene so it's a bit of a shock to hear something like this in the most unexpected moments. As I grew older I've kind of rediscovered the song and it conjured up these dark feelings once more. However, this time it was somewhat bittersweet. Now, I see the beauty in this song. I've grown to love it. It's a calming piece of nostalgia for me. I know this little story might not be of importance or might be just weird to whoever is reading this butI just wanted to share my experience with this song. I could see how it could happen. I remember as kid being really freaked out by the song by 10cc called "I'm not in Love". Interestingly, it's not unlike this song in terms of it's overall ethereal vibe. Check it out if you've never heard it.

For me, this one brings back memories of the scene in Garden State where it's used, which is portraying this sort of Garden of Eden of my youth that I remember so well, but that I can never get back to. So it's very bittersweet for me.

I've had a similar experience to you with this one except this song resonated really strongly with me rather than scared me. I heard it as a child (not sure what I was doing) and it stuck with me subconsciously at first. When i got older i heard it again and realized I was weirdly drawn to it. I would continue to hear it once every few years and each time desperately tried to find out the name but never could. This song is a little masterpiece. I can't say how many times when I've been physically unwell, and my body being out of whack, that I've been able to power through and complete something because I would put this on over and over listening with my earbuds. There is something about the frequency of the music and the key of the song along with the gentleness of her voice that is anti-jarring and healing at the same time. The very first time that I heard Zero Seven was from watching Garden State. Then I heard Z-7 again in a
bistro type bar in Boulder Colo. After that, I went on the hunt on line and have been a fan ever since. That

I first heard this song on the Garden State Soundtrack, the entire soundtrack, but most certainly this song reminds me of my first road trip, everytime I hear it, it takes me back to those few days of being absolutely young, wild, and free. I had no idea what was ahead of me, nor did I care. I miss that.

I have loved this song ever since I heard just a portion of it on "Sex and the City" years and years ago (Episode "The Domino Effect"). However, I just finally found the name and group. I am so thrilled to have found it to accompany my focused mindfulness during such a tough time in our history. Looks like in August 2020, the band released a single, "Shadows", and is planning to release an EP in the near future, though not with same vocalists.

I heard it in a bar in Cork City, Ireland, let's say 2007. Thereafter could not find the title. Sought it for years; heard it or a portion of only once or two. Then while having a slice of pizza at Positive Pie, Montpelier Vermont USA, @ 2013, heard it on the sound system. Asked a server if he could see its title. Finally matched the song with its name. Very much worth it, as we here all know.

this is on my Motorcycle ride play list.. listened to it on a 3K trip to Miami. I remember driving through the back roads heading down there, middle of nowhere, late at night, two lane roads, mist and fog in the low spots,, stars shining bright above, shooting stars, the fresh air of the country and farmland, and this playing in my ears.
Unbelievable feeling!

I'm in my 60's now and mixed sound with bands for years and yet only discovered these guys a few years ago on youtube. In my opinion, it's music like this that makes you think on a different level and is obviously written and produced by thinkers who have successfully transferred states of mind through great lyrics and sonic mastery to the listener who will find in the music whatever doors of perception that their life experiences have given them cause to open.
Maybe they are just happy "doing their thing" having realised that fame and money can make life a bit easier at times but connecting with people who leave the most diverse and interesting comments about the long lasting effects of this music on their lives is the real reward and I hope they receive whatever amount of recognition that they desire... This style of musicianship gets a fair run in my home studio and gives me hope ... Peace and health to you all.

I discovered Zero 7 following the suggestion of Grooveshark when listening to Air. I love them both. In my opinion Air excel at instrumental tracks (i.e. Le voyage de Penelope, La Femme d'Argent, etc), while Zero 7 are the best in finding amazing voices to blend their melodies with.
