The core of Geggy Tah comprises Greg Kurstin and Tommy Jordan. Each of them has a younger sister who was unable to pronounce her brother's name when very young; "Geggy" and "Tah" were the baby girls' mispronunciations of their brother's names.
Geggy Tah's first release, Grand Opening, appeared in 1994 on David Byrne's Luaka Bop label. For their 1996 release Sacred Cow, they added drummer Daren Hahn to the lineup. Also on Luaka Bop, the album spawned the hit single "Whoever You Are." The song appeared in a Mercedes commercial circa 2001.
In 1999, the band announced a new album entitled Music Inspired by The Fragrance, and released two songs ("Space Heater" and "Sweat") on the web in mp3 format. However (in part because of Luaka Bop's move from Warner Brothers to Virgin Records) the album went unreleased until 2001, by which point it had acquired a new title: Into The Oh.
Sacred Cow
Geggy Tah Lyrics

What song this isn't a song really
Shut up and stop your playing around
The subject right now is what's wrong. . .
Chorus:
What's wrong with this immaculate
What song is this immaculate song of love
What's wrong with this immaculate
Love makes me want to melt down
It can be really dangerous
If I make love to you now
I'll have a gigantic sacred cow
Chorus
What song reminds you of when
Life was home on the dangerous
Which side of the tracks are you on
Both sides because the world is round
Sacred cows are headed for the slaughter
Sacred chickens pecking cement
Making unknown nuggets for the miners
So they can make cement excrement
Building buildings taller than the mountains
Digging tunnels deeper than the sea
How I' d like to fly in an airplane
So I can pump entertainment in me
Chorus
The lyrics of Geggy Tah's "Sacred Cow" are challenging to interpret as they seem to defy a singular meaning. The song starts with the lead singer questioning someone about why they're always crying lately, emphasizing the need to stay focused on the present moment instead of wallowing in past emotions. The refrain of the song repeats, "What's wrong with this immaculate, what song is this immaculate song of love," which could be interpreted as a commentary on the purity and beauty of love, even in times of distress.
The second verse delves deeper into the power and potential danger of love, with the singer acknowledging that making love to someone could cause a "gigantic sacred cow." This line is likely a metaphor for creating a disruption or uproar in one's life, as cows are often associated with peaceful and gentle grazing animals. The chorus repeats before moving into the third verse, which speaks to the complexities of identity and how the world is round, allowing for all sides to coexist.
The final verse of the song takes on a surreal and almost absurd quality, with references to chickens pecking cement and "building buildings taller than the mountains." The singer expresses a desire to escape this world of contradictions and enter a space of pure entertainment, perhaps highlighting the power of art and music to transport us from reality.
Overall, "Sacred Cow" offers a confusing yet thought-provoking commentary on love, identity, and the world around us.

One of the best songs on the album. I bought this album back in '98, I'm glad to see it's not lost on younger people.
