In The Morning
George Ezra Lyrics

With a paint brush in your hand
What'd you see, babe?
Who'd you meet, babe?
What's going on?
Ooh-ooh, in the morning
Heard you found yourself a man
Time's change, people change
And I've been changing too
Just can't seem to shake the thought of you
Ooh-ooh, in the morning
Ooh-ooh, in the morning
Well, all my stars will shine
In the morning
And I'll be doing fine
In the morning
Happy days will come
In the morning
And I'll be moving on
In the morn'
I close my eyes sometimes
Hoping it will rain all night
And the streets of London will be flooded
And wash all this heartache away
Now I swim right after it
Hang my head over the precipice
And watch it all sink through the bottom of the deep, dark blue
And I'll say
Hey, hey, it's a new day
Hey, hey, it's a new day
Hey, hey, it's a new day
Hey, hey, it's a new day
Ooh-ooh, in the morning
Ooh-ooh, in the morning
Well, all my stars will shine
In the morning
And I'll be doing fine
In the morning
And happy days will come
In the morning
And I'll be moving on
In the morn'
And I'll say
Hey, hey, it's a new day
Hey, hey, it's a new day, yeah
Hey, hey, it's a new day
Hey, hey, it's a new day, yeah
Hey, hey, it's a new day
Hey, hey, it's a new day, yeah
Hey, hey, it's a new day
Hey, hey, it's a new day, yeah
Ooh-ooh, in the morning
Ooh-ooh, in the morning
Well, all my stars will shine
In the morning
And I'll be doing fine
In the morning
And happy days will come
In the morning
And I'll be moving on
In the morning
Well, all my stars will shine
In the morning
And I'll be doing fine
In the morning
And happy days will come
In the morning
I'll be moving on, moving on
Oh, ah, na-na-na, ooh
The lyrics of "In the Morning" by George Ezra capture the emotions of longing, heartbreak, and ultimately, moving on. The song begins with the singer expressing curiosity about the person they once knew who has moved to Rotterdam. The singer wonders what the person is experiencing in their new life and acknowledges that time has passed and people have changed, including themselves. Despite the distance and changes, the singer cannot shake thoughts of this person, particularly in the morning when reflections are often the strongest.
As the song progresses, the singer finds solace in the idea that things will get better with each new day. The mention of stars shining and having happy days in the morning suggests a sense of optimism and hope for the future. The repetition of the phrase "in the morning" reinforces the idea of a fresh start and the potential for brighter days ahead. The singer seems determined to move forward and leave the past behind.
The lyrics take a darker turn as the singer describes a desire for emotional cleansing through a rainstorm in London. The imagery of streets flooded and heartache washed away symbolizes a desire for healing and renewal. The singer's willingness to confront their emotions head-on by swimming after the storm and watching everything sink into the depths reflects a cathartic release and acceptance of the pain.
In the end, the repeated refrain of "Hey, hey, it's a new day" emphasizes a sense of starting anew and leaving the past behind. The song concludes with a sense of resolution and empowerment as the singer declares their readiness to move on from the heartache and embrace the possibilities of a new day. Overall, "In the Morning" conveys a journey of emotional growth, resilience, and embracing the dawn of a fresh chapter in life.

Heard you moved to Rotterdam
I heard that you relocated to Rotterdam
With a paint brush in your hand
Carrying a paintbrush with you
What'd you see, babe?
What did you witness, my dear?
Who'd you meet, babe?
Who did you encounter, my dear?
What's going on?
What is happening?
Ooh-ooh, in the morning
Ooh-ooh, when the day begins
Heard you found yourself a man
I heard you found a partner
Just don't forget the boy now, honey
Just remember the boy, dear
Time's change, people change
Time passes, and people evolve
And I've been changing too
And I have been evolving as well
Just can't seem to shake the thought of you
I can't seem to get you out of my mind
Well, all my stars will shine
My luck will improve
And I'll be doing fine
And I will be okay
Happy days will come
Happier times are on the way
And I'll be moving on
And I will be able to move forward
I close my eyes sometimes
Sometimes I shut my eyes
Hoping it will rain all night
In hope that it will rain throughout the night
And the streets of London will be flooded
So that London's streets will flood
And wash all this heartache away
And cleanse away this pain
Now I swim right after it
Now I swim right after the rain
Hang my head over the precipice
Lean my head over the edge
And watch it all sink through the bottom of the deep, dark blue
And observe it all disappear into the depths of the dark blue
Hey, hey, it's a new day
Hello, it is a fresh start
Ooh-ooh, in the morning
Ooh-ooh, at the crack of dawn
