La Moneda
Gerardo Ortiz Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A que mal giro dio la moneda
Me matan a mi hijo y estoy tras las rejas
No eh parado y no sigo pensando

Tanto tiempo pase trabajando

Aquí sigo ordenando a mi gente

Overall Meaning

In Gerardo Ortiz's song La Moneda, the singer tells the story of a father whose son was killed and now he finds himself in jail. He laments the twists of fate that led him to this point and the mistakes that led him to pay such a high price. Even though he is still thinking about his past, he is aware that life is now taking its toll on him, and he is paying for his past errors. The pain he feels being incarcerated is overwhelming; he misses his family, and it stops him from making plans for when he is out. Nevertheless, he finds hope in the fact that his family is supporting him during this tough time.

The second verse delves further into the father's backstory. He used to sweat while working as a migrant worker, but he managed to form a family that now lies in ruins. The wicked hand of fate has dealt him a harsh blow, robbing him of his son and his normal life. Despite his pain, he begs God to forgive him if he has ever failed him. The last few lines of the song seem to resonate with the singer's story, as he warns the listener that "good" people are also suffering in this drug war, which seems to have only brought misery upon good people.
