Growing up in Florida, Whitney was originally a guitar player for hardcore and doom metal bands.[3] Whitney moved to Los Angeles, California after starting his career as a rapper eventually finding success in the underground.
Eric Whitney was born 15 April 1991 in Lake Worth, Florida to parents from New York. Whitney grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida. As a teenager, he was in several bands and played the guitar which introduced him to music. He also played football whilst in High School, saying he was practically forced to by his father, who died when Whitney was seventeen.
Whitney was introduced to rap music when he was the guitarist in the hardcore punk band Nemesis and a bandmate introduced him to Memphis rap.
Whitney graduated from university after studying astrophysics and was eventually employed in a position earning $65,000 annually. In 2015, Whitney moved to Los Angeles, California due to his music not thriving in Southern Florida, giving up his employment at the same time. Meeting up with JGRXXN, Whitney joined his collective Schemaposse which included artists such as the now-deceased Lil Peep and Craig Xen.
In April 2016, Schemaposse disbanded leaving Whitney not associated with any group. Whitney eventually began to associate with the popular underground group $uicideboy$ and fellow Florida rapper Pouya. Pouya released the video for "1000 Rounds" with Ghostemane in April 2017.The video quickly went viral and as of May 2018, has nearly 9 million views.
In 2018 Whitney released his 10th album, "N / O / I / S / E" (No One Is Safe from Evil). The album has a very dark and aggressive style and it deals a lot with self-harm, self-mutilation, agoraphobia, and many other issues Ghostemane has dealt with personally. N / O / I / S / E was released by surprise on 10th October 2018, as it was supposed to drop on 17th October of the same year.

And then you taught me how to sit and behave
You told me, "Lick your fingertips for a taste"
And then you smacked me and you called me a waste
I guess you gave me a little surprise in my drink
Stumbled through the hall and hit my face on the sink
Woke up in a panic and unable to see
Haven't I been such a good good boy?
Haven't I been such a good good boy?
Haven't I been such a good good boy?
Haven't I been such a good good boy?
You took a knee and put some food in my cage
And then you taught me how to sit and behave
You told me, "Lick your fingertips for a taste"
And then you smacked me and you called me a waste
Haven't I been such a good good boy?
Haven't I been such a good good boy?
Haven't I been such a good good boy?
Haven't I been such a good good boy?
In these haunting and evocative lyrics of GhosteMane's "Anti-Social Masochistic Rage," there is a complex narrative unfolding, ripe with themes of control, manipulation, and internal turmoil. The opening lines portray a disturbing scenario where the singer is metaphorically likened to an animal being trained and controlled. The act of putting food in the cage and teaching to sit and behave suggests a dominance and submission dynamic, where the singer is conditioned to comply with oppressive authority figures. The instruction to "lick your fingertips for a taste" followed by being insulted and belittled indicates a cycle of abuse and degradation inflicted upon the singer by their manipulator.
The imagery of being drugged in the line "I guess you gave me a little surprise in my drink" delves deeper into the theme of loss of control and violation of personal autonomy. The singer's disoriented state, stumbling and hitting their face, vividly depicts a sense of physical and emotional disorientation. This experience plunges them into a state of panic and confusion, unable to comprehend or process the intensity of their suffering.
The repetition of the question "Haven't I been such a good good boy?" throughout the lyrics is laden with irony and bitterness. It reflects the internalized guilt and self-blame of the singer, who is conditioned to seek validation and approval from their abuser despite enduring mistreatment and cruelty. This plea for affirmation highlights the psychological manipulation and gaslighting tactics employed by the abuser to maintain control over the singer's sense of self-worth and identity.
In the cyclical nature of the lyrics, the singer finds themselves trapped in a repetitive pattern of abuse and submission, symbolized by the recurring imagery of being confined in a cage and subjected to degrading treatment. The juxtaposition of being praised as a "good good boy" while being degraded and mistreated underscores the complexity of the singer's internal conflict and trauma bonding. Ultimately, these lyrics paint a harrowing portrait of psychological manipulation, self-destruction, and the struggle for autonomy and liberation within a toxic and abusive relationship.
