Growing up in Florida, Whitney was originally a guitar player for hardcore and doom metal bands.[3] Whitney moved to Los Angeles, California after starting his career as a rapper eventually finding success in the underground.
Eric Whitney was born 15 April 1991 in Lake Worth, Florida to parents from New York. Whitney grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida. As a teenager, he was in several bands and played the guitar which introduced him to music. He also played football whilst in High School, saying he was practically forced to by his father, who died when Whitney was seventeen.
Whitney was introduced to rap music when he was the guitarist in the hardcore punk band Nemesis and a bandmate introduced him to Memphis rap.
Whitney graduated from university after studying astrophysics and was eventually employed in a position earning $65,000 annually. In 2015, Whitney moved to Los Angeles, California due to his music not thriving in Southern Florida, giving up his employment at the same time. Meeting up with JGRXXN, Whitney joined his collective Schemaposse which included artists such as the now-deceased Lil Peep and Craig Xen.
In April 2016, Schemaposse disbanded leaving Whitney not associated with any group. Whitney eventually began to associate with the popular underground group $uicideboy$ and fellow Florida rapper Pouya. Pouya released the video for "1000 Rounds" with Ghostemane in April 2017.The video quickly went viral and as of May 2018, has nearly 9 million views.
In 2018 Whitney released his 10th album, "N / O / I / S / E" (No One Is Safe from Evil). The album has a very dark and aggressive style and it deals a lot with self-harm, self-mutilation, agoraphobia, and many other issues Ghostemane has dealt with personally. N / O / I / S / E was released by surprise on 10th October 2018, as it was supposed to drop on 17th October of the same year.

Picked it up and took it with me
I found a surprise inside of the pit
Followed the road back to your body
You are liquid
You will die if you are nothing
I know despite you when
Whisper something softly
You know those demons have to eat
Woke up in a cold sweat tonight, I guess I
Got enough sleep, no counting sheep for me
Leave me be, don't you waste a thought on me
Time, and time, and time over again
You take the role of every
Voice inside my head
Telling me: "Don't forget a piece of me"
I'm full of life again, I release relief
In the song "DoYouBelieveInAngels?" by Ghostemane, the lyrics portray a deep and introspective exploration of themes related to love, loss, and finding purpose in life.
The opening lines, "I found your heart laying in the street, Picked it up and took it with me," suggest that the singer has encountered someone who is emotionally wounded or heartbroken. They metaphorically find this person's heart in a vulnerable state, abandoned and discarded, and choose to carry it with them. This can be interpreted as an act of empathy and compassion, indicating that the singer is willing to support and care for this individual.
The line, "I found a surprise inside of the pit, Followed the road back to your body," signifies that the singer discovers something unexpected within the depths of this emotional struggle. They follow a path or journey back to the person's body, suggesting a desire to understand their pain and potentially provide healing.
The next lines, "You are liquid, You will die if you are nothing," introduce a contrasting perspective on the individual's identity and existence. They are described as "liquid," which symbolically implies fluidity and flexibility, suggesting that their essence is defined by their ability to adapt and change. However, the statement "You will die if you are nothing" highlights the importance of having purpose and meaning in life. The implication is that to truly live, one must have something they believe in and strive towards.
The following lines, "I know despite you when, Whisper something softly, Put those petals around your feet, You know those demons have to eat," explore the idea of inner demons, struggles, and personal battles. The singer is acknowledging that despite the person's circumstances, they possess inner strength and resilience. Whispering something softly could signify offering words of encouragement or solace. The imagery of putting petals around their feet suggests the offering of a gentle, nurturing gesture, indicating care and protection. However, the line "You know those demons have to eat" implies that the person's struggle with their inner demons is ongoing, highlighting the cyclical nature of personal battles and the need to confront and address them continuously.
In the second paragraph, the lyrics shift to the singer's perspective and their own internal struggles. They describe waking up in a cold sweat, implying a sense of fear, anxiety, or unease. The line "Got enough sleep, no counting sheep for me" suggests that the singer's restlessness goes beyond simple insomnia, indicating a deeper emotional turmoil. They express a desire to be left alone, as they don't want others to waste their thoughts or energy on them. This could be seen as an indication of self-isolation or a personal struggle to fully accept and receive support.
The repetition of the phrase "time, and time, and time over again" suggests a recurring pattern or cycle in the singer's life. This repetition reinforces the idea that they are stuck in a loop, continuously grappling with internal conflicts and the various voices inside their head. These voices might represent different aspects of themselves or different influences they have encountered in life.
The line "Telling me: 'Don't forget a piece of me'" reveals a longing for connection and a fear of losing parts of oneself. It reflects the desire to hold on to memories, experiences, and relationships, as they form integral parts of one's identity. The phrase "I'm full of life again, I release relief" can be interpreted as the singer breaking free from the constraints of their internal struggles. It signifies a sense of rejuvenation, finding solace, and experiencing a renewed sense of purpose or vitality.
In summary, the lyrics of "DoYouBelieveInAngels?" by Ghostemane tap into themes of empathy, compassion, personal struggles, and finding meaning in life. The song explores the journey of healing, both for oneself and others, and the importance of confronting and understanding our inner demons.
