The cast is second behind The Beatles for most chart appearances by a group act in the Billboard Hot 100's history, and holds the record of sixth overall among all artists, with sixty-nine appearances. The cast has sold over thirty six million and over eleven million albums worldwide. The series' cover versions have also had a positive effect on the original recording artists, with sales of Rihanna's "Take a Bow" increasing by 189 percent after the song was covered in the Glee episode "Showmance".
The series features covers of numerous songs sung on-screen by the characters. Musical segments typically take the form of performances, as opposed to the characters singing spontaneously, as the intention is for the series to remain reality-based. Murphy is responsible for selecting all of the songs used, and strives to maintain a balance between show tunes and chart hits, as: "I want there to be something for everybody in every episode. That's a tricky mix, but that's very important — the balancing of that." Song choices are integral to script development, with Murphy explaining: "Each episode has a theme at its core. After I write the script, I will choose songs that help to move the story along."
Glee is choreographed by Zach Woodlee, and features five to eight production numbers per episode. Once music rights are cleared, songs are arranged and pre-recorded by the cast. Woodlee constructs the accompanying dance moves, which are then taught to the cast and filmed. Numbers can take several weeks to prepare, depending on complexity. Each episode costs at least $3 million to produce, and can take up to 10 days to film as a result of the elaborate choreography.
More Than Words
Glee Cast Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Is not the words I want to hear from you
It's not that I want you
Not to say, but if you only knew
How easy it would be to show me how you feel
More than words is all you have to do to make it real
Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me
Cause I'd already know
More than words to show you feel
That your love for me is real
What would you say if I took those words away
Then you couldn't make things new
Just by saying I love you
More than words
Now I've tried to talk to you and make you understand
All you have to do is close your eyes
And just reach out your hands and touch me
Hold me close don't ever let me go
More than words is all I ever needed you to show
Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me
Cos I'd already know
What would you do if my heart was torn in two
More than words to show you feel
That your love for me is real
What would you say if I took those words away
Then you couldn't make things new
Just by saying I love you
More than words
The Glee Cast's rendition of "More Than Words" is a beautifully sung duet that conveys the message that actions speak louder than words. The lyrics express the idea that a simple "I love you" can be meaningless without accompanying actions that prove the depth of one's love. The singer longs for their loved one to show, not just say, their love and asks them what they would do if the singer's heart was torn in two. The answer, according to the lyrics, is that the loved one should show their love through actions, rather than just words.
The song is a powerful reminder that words can be empty if not backed up with actions. The singer suggests that actions such as physical touch and holding can sometimes communicate a depth of emotion that words cannot. The emotional intensity of the song is built by the singers' interplay and harmonization, backed by a stripped-down backing track that emphasizes the vocals.

You would think this is a really cute duet between Sam and Brittany expressing their love for each other, but no... it's for a cat. It's all for a cat.
@Fitzwilliamdarcy1000
Actually, it was for ND- remember, Sam said to preform it in front of ND, so it wouldn't seem like she was prioritizing a cat over them
@MedaX
Fact: In "Ballad", this was the song playing in Suzy Pepper's ipod after Schue shut her down and she ate that chili pepper
