The cast is second behind The Beatles for most chart appearances by a group act in the Billboard Hot 100's history, and holds the record of sixth overall among all artists, with sixty-nine appearances. The cast has sold over thirty six million and over eleven million albums worldwide. The series' cover versions have also had a positive effect on the original recording artists, with sales of Rihanna's "Take a Bow" increasing by 189 percent after the song was covered in the Glee episode "Showmance".
The series features covers of numerous songs sung on-screen by the characters. Musical segments typically take the form of performances, as opposed to the characters singing spontaneously, as the intention is for the series to remain reality-based. Murphy is responsible for selecting all of the songs used, and strives to maintain a balance between show tunes and chart hits, as: "I want there to be something for everybody in every episode. That's a tricky mix, but that's very important — the balancing of that." Song choices are integral to script development, with Murphy explaining: "Each episode has a theme at its core. After I write the script, I will choose songs that help to move the story along."
Glee is choreographed by Zach Woodlee, and features five to eight production numbers per episode. Once music rights are cleared, songs are arranged and pre-recorded by the cast. Woodlee constructs the accompanying dance moves, which are then taught to the cast and filmed. Numbers can take several weeks to prepare, depending on complexity. Each episode costs at least $3 million to produce, and can take up to 10 days to film as a result of the elaborate choreography.
Wings
Glee Cast Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
She said spread your wings my little butterfly
Don't let what they say keep you up at night
And if they give you shhhh.
Then they can walk on by
My feet, feet can't touch the ground
But you just keep on running up your mouth yeah
Walk, walk on over there
Cos I'm too fly to care, oh yeah
Your words don't mean a thing
I'm not listening
Keep talking, all I know is
Mamma told me not to waste my life
She said spread your wings my little butterfly
Don't let what they say keep you up at night
And they can't detain you
Coz wings are made to fly
And we don't let nobody bring us down
No matter what you say it won't hurt me
Don't matter if I fall from the sky
These wings are made to fly
Huh huh...
I'm firing up on that runway
I know we're gonna get their someday
But we don't need no ready steady go, no
Talk, talk turns into air
And I don't even care, oh yeah
Your words don't mean a thing
I'm not listening
Keep walking, all I know is
Mamma told me not to waste my life
She said spread your wings my little butterfly
Don't let what they say keep you up at night
And they can't detain you
Coz wings are made to fly
And we don't let nobody bring us down
No matter what you say it won't hurt me
Don't matter if I fall from the sky
These wings are made to fly
I don't need no one saying hey, hey, hey, hey
I don't hear no one saying hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
You better keep on walking
I don't wanna hear your talking boy
You better keep on walking
I don't wanna hear your talking boy
Your words don't mean a thing
I'm not listening
Keep walking, all I know is
Mamma told me not to waste my life
She said spread your wings my little butterfly
Don't let what they say keep you up at night
And they can't detain you
Coz wings are made to fly
And we don't let nobody bring us down
No matter what you say it won't hurt me
Don't matter if I fall from the sky
These wings are made to fly

Mamma told me not to waste my life
My mother advised me to not let my life go to waste
She said spread your wings my little butterfly
She told me to go out and explore the world, like a butterfly spreading its wings
Don't let what they say keep you up at night
Don't let the negative things people say affect you and keep you from being at peace at night
And if they give you shhhh.
If they try to silence you
Then they can walk on by
They can just leave
My feet, feet can't touch the ground
I feel like I'm flying and can't touch the ground
And I can't hear a sound
I'm so focused on the positive things that I can't hear the negativity
But you just keep on running up your mouth yeah
You keep talking and not saying anything useful
Walk, walk on over there
Go over there and leave me alone
Cos I'm too fly to care, oh yeah
Because I'm too cool to care about what you say
Your words don't mean a thing
What you say doesn't have an impact on me
I'm not listening
I'm not paying attention to your words
Keep talking, all I know is
Keep on talking, but I already know
And they can't detain you
Nobody can hold you back
Coz wings are made to fly
Because wings are meant for flying
And we don't let nobody bring us down
We don't let anyone bring us down
No matter what you say it won't hurt me
Your words can't hurt me
Don't matter if I fall from the sky
Even if I fail, I'll get back up and keep going
These wings are made to fly
I'm meant to soar and be successful
I'm firing up on that runway
I'm ready to take off
I know we're gonna get their someday
I know we'll achieve our goals someday
But we don't need no ready steady go, no
We don't need to follow someone else's rules or pace
Talk, talk turns into air
All the talk turns into nothing
And I don't even care, oh yeah
I don't even care about the negativity
I don't need no one saying hey, hey, hey, hey
I don't need anyone to tell me what to do or how to feel
You better keep on walking
You should just keep walking away from me
I don't wanna hear your talking boy
I don't want to hear anything you have to say

Jessica Sanchez is one of the best vocalist I've heard in a long time, she's SO underrated
@GoCALBears03
Jessica Sanchez herself is a fan of Little Mix and the song. She's happy that she was able to sing it. So, to those who lack a sense of appreciation to somebody who has a real talent, let's see/hear your own cover of the song. Come on, don't be afraid. I bet you are also the kind that laughs at the misfortune of other people. <3 Little Mix and Jessica Sanchez! Don't Hate, Learn to Appreciate!
