Valerie
Glee Cast Lyrics

Santana
Well, sometimes I go out by myself
And I look across the water
And I think of all the things, what you're doin'
And in my head I paint a picture

'Cause since I've come on home, well my body's been a mess
And I've missed your ginger hair and the way you like to dress
Won't you come on over? Stop makin' a fool out of me
Why don't you come on over Valerie?
Valerie, Valerie, Valerie

Did you have to go to jail, put your house all up for sale, did you get a good lawyer?
I hope you didn't catch a tan, I hope you'll find the right man who'll fix it for ya
And are you shoppin' anywhere, changed the colour of you hair, and are you busy?
And did you have to pay that fine that you were dodgin' all the time, are you still dizzy?

'Cause since I've come on home, well my body's been a mess
And I've missed your ginger hair and the way you like to dress
Won't you come on over? Stop makin' a fool out of me
Why don't you come on over Valerie?
Valerie, Valerie, Valerie

Well sometimes I go out by myself
And I look across the water
And I think of all the things, what you're doin'
And in my head I paint a picture

'Cause since I've come on home, well my body's been a mess
And I've missed your ginger hair and the way you like to dress
Won't you come on over? Stop makin' a fool out of me
Why don't you come on over Valerie?
Valerie, Valerie, Valerie
Valerie, hey

Valerie, Valerie
Valerie, why don't you come on over, Valerie?

Overall Meaning

The Glee Cast's rendition of Valerie tells a story of longing and regret as Santana thinks about an old flame. She admits to going out by herself, looking across the water and thinking of all the things her former love could be doing at that very moment. Painting a picture in her head, the listener can infer that she's imagining what life would be like if they were still together. The lyrics then shift to asking a string of questions about the past, seemingly catching up on what's happened to the other person since they ended things. The chorus repeats throughout the song, pleading with Valerie to come back and stop making a fool out of Santana.

The overall mood of the song is somber yet hopeful. Santana misses her ex-girlfriend and seems to regret whatever led to their breakup. She's curious about how Valerie is doing, from her legal troubles to her possible new love interests. The repeated plea for Valerie to come back indicates that Santana still holds a flame for her former lover. The melody is upbeat and catchy, which provides a nice balance to the melancholy lyrics.

I don’t think Naya will ever understand how many people she’s help. Her character in glee helped me come to terms with my sexuality SO much. I remember in grade school I was a bully to a kid we all said was gay- then I realized I was. I came out and was rejected by family, but she was my comfort character so I didn’t care. Because to me we were the same. I felt untouchable. Ik she wasn’t her character, but NO ONE else could have portrayed her better. She will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart. Rest In Peace ❤️‍🩹

Juliana Bezerra

I just love this version of Valerie, definitely one of the bests songs of Glee!

Jamila adams

It would be great if they did the full songs on glee

Janet Hadley

Usually can't because of time limits and the more of the song that's used, the more it costs. Only reason they did a two episode for the Beatles is Paul McCartney let them use the songs for free because he was a fan.
