At Last
Glenn Miller Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I was never spellbound by a starry sky
What is there to moon glow, when love has passed you by
Then there came a midnight and the world was new
Now here am I so spellbound, darling
Not by stars, but just by you

At last my love has come along
My lonely days are over and life is like a song
At Last the skies above are blue
My heart was wrapped in clover the night I looked at you
I found a dream that I can speak to
A dream that I can call my own
I found a thrill to press my cheek to
A thrill I've never known
You smiled and then the spell was cast
And here we are in Heaven
For you are mine at last

At last my love has come along
My lonely days are over and life is like a song
At last the skies above are blue
My heart was wrapped in clover the night I looked at you
I found a dream that I can speak to
A dream that I can call my own
I found a thrill to press my cheek to
A thrill I've never known

You smiled and then the spell was cast
And here we are in Heaven

YOUR A LEGEND!!!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I’m 16 and I’ve loved his music since I was 9 and he inspires me to somehow bring this music back because it touches me. GOD YOU DONT KNOW HOW HAPPY YOU MADE ME!! when I heard this song play in sun valley serenade in that clip, I loved the starting of it, and I became sad because it faded to black and continued the next song. THANKS 1,200,000 million!!!!

Glorious sound - the Miller band at its finest. Great song, lovely arrangement. Just superb. If only we had popular music of this quality today.

Glad you're back!!!
This is my favorite arrangement of my favorite Miller song. I first heard it on an LP in the early 60's and I still think it's the best performance in the entire Miller canon.

On the other hand, it could be slightly slower and the trumpets desperately needed to lower their volume, a common problem on many of Miller's arrangements. This is a love song and should not sound like a freight train passing through town in the middle of the night. Right after this one comes Along the Santa Fé Trail and The Call of the Canyon.
