1) Gojira is a metal band from Bayonne, France. Their lyrics focus on life, ecology, and spiritual themes. They were formed in 1996 by brothers Joe Duplantier (vocals and lead guitar) and Mario Duplantier (drums), Christian Andreu (guitar) and Alexandre Cornillon (bass guitar). Cornillon left the band in 2001 and Jean-Michel Labadie became their bass player. Genres that they have been associated with over their career include death metal, progressive metal, thrash metal and groove metal.
They had initially named their group Godzilla, but due to legal constraints had to change their name. They therefore chose to re-name their band Gojira - the original Japanese version of their name (in Japanese Gojira means gorilla-whale or gorilla the size of a whale). Some of the content of their music is focused on the ecological effects of human activity on the Earth.
Joe and Mario Duplantier also play in an experimental metal band called Empalot.
In 2007 Joe also became the bass player for former Sepultura members Max and Igor's new project, Cavalera Conspiracy.

Like the majority of the songs on the album, Pray is about the pain and sadness that both Joe and his brother Mario have gone through as a result of their mother’s passing. Pray is about the desperation one goes through when hoping for something worse to get better, whether it be bad weather, or a close loved one is unwell.

This band means so much to me on many levels. First and foremost, I struggled with opioid addiction for alot of years. When I finally stopped lying to myself and decided to get sober or die, I discovered this band through another channel called Lost In Vegas that I'm sure alot of folks by now have seen or heard of. So I sat in my room at home and for 7 days I detoxed while listening to Gojira's entire discography over and over. I turned 43 yesterday Feb 16th and have been sober ever since. A little over 2 years now. I have a 17 year old son that is going with me in May to finally see them live. I'm very thankful. Love this band.
