My Head
Goldfinger Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Where are you now
I want to talk to you
I'm sitting here alone
Waiting by the phone

Where are you now
I want to talk to you
If only you were home
I wouldn't be alone
I wait for you

Where are you now
Are you just toying with me
Do you need me to play
All your high school games

Where are you now
I guess I'll try once more
I don't have much to say
But it's the tenth call that I made
And it's ringing in my head
Yeah the last thing that
You said now

I ask you just
What is it you've tasted
Your answer's hushed
I'm wasted, so wasted

And all the promises you made
Were the others just the same now

Overall Meaning

The song "My Head" by Goldfinger talks about a person who is longing to talk to someone who is not around, waiting by the phone in the hopes of hearing their voice. The song starts by repeating the lyrics "Where are you now", implying that the person the singer is trying to reach is nowhere to be found. The desperation in the voice of the singer can be sensed as he asks whether the person he's trying to reach is just toying with him or whether they need him to play their high school games. The repetition of the phrase, "I wouldn't be alone, I wait for you" in between the verses further emphasizes the longing to hear from the person.

Towards the end of the song, the singer's frustration is heard as he talks about the tenth call that he has made, the one he cannot stop ringing in his head. Despite the desperation, the singer confronts the person on the other end about the promises they made, asking if they were just like the others. The last line of the song, "And all the promises you made, were the others just the same now", leaves the listener wondering if the person ever returned the call or kept their promise.
