Before they were signed to a major label, they released an EP titled Richter. Many of the songs on Richter are demo versions of songs on their full length debut, Goldfinger, which was released in 1996. Their biggest single was "Here in Your Bedroom", though they also gained recognition from their song Superman, which was featured in the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater (1) video game. (Their song "Spokesman" was also included in the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 video game) Though their second album, Hang-Ups, was less successful, the band still maintained a devoted fanbase in the hardcore community. Their third studio LP was Stomping Ground, which sold poorly in the US but was a modest hit in some European countries, thanks to their cover of Nena's "99 Red Balloons" sung partly in German. 99 Red Balloons was also featured in Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec, as well as the movie Eurotrip. Their next album, Open Your Eyes (2002), was the first for their new record label, Jive/Zomba.
Frontman John Feldmann has produced records for Mest, The Used (whose vocalist Bert McCracken sang some guest vocals on 'Open Your Eyes' and 'Ocean Size') and Story of the Year. He also produced Good Charlotte's single "The Anthem" (whose guitarist Benji Madden provides guest vocals on 'January'), which was originally named "Oracle of Elcaro". He also signed the band Unloco with Maverick Records. In early 2005, they released their first album for their new label, titled "Disconnection Notice". It featured the single "Wasted".
Former band members include bassist Simon Williams, who left the band following Hang-Ups (replaced by Kelly Lemieux), and Brian Arthur, who left the band following Disconnection Notice.

The Innocent
Goldfinger Lyrics

It was just another day
We all saw the news, nothing to say
So many friends are missing
And family members gone
So we all pray that God help them be strong
Remembering that day
The lives we live will never be the same
[CHORUS]
And we don't know why
The innocent die
Will this world ever find a way to change?
And we don't know why
But we know it's not right
We don't know why so many had to die
We don't know why so many had to die
Hate has turned to others
For their religion or their skin
But hate can't solve the problem it began
Everyone is angry
People are afraid
And no one knows what decisions will be made
[CHORUS]
Bridge
And we don't know why (don't know why)
The innocent die (don't know why)
Will this world ever find a way to change?
And we don't know why (don't know why)
But we know it's not right (don't know why)
Will any of us ever be the same?
Will any of this ever be the same?
And we don't know why
The innocent die
Will any of us ever be the same?
Will any of this ever be the same?
Goldfinger's song "The Innocent" speaks about the devastating effects of the 9/11 terrorist attack, which led to the deaths of thousands of innocent people. The lyrics highlight how such a tragedy can never be forgotten, even years after it happened. The first verse talks about the day of the attack, presenting it as a day just like any other that suddenly turned into a dark and sorrowful one. The second verse touches on the aftermath of the tragedy and how hate and discrimination arose from it.
The chorus sums up the general feeling of confusion and despair that was felt after the attack. The lyrics ask a question that has puzzled many for years - why do innocent people have to die? Goldfinger seems to acknowledge that there may never be an answer to this question. The bridge of the song serves as a reminder that things will never be the same again because of the tragedy, and the world will never be able to forget what happened.
Overall, "The Innocent" is a poignant and heartfelt tribute to those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attack, and a reminder that something like this should never happen again.
