Young Speak
Good Tiger Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I would never want to see the shore dry up
The blur of what is real and make-believe
The sand is getting in my eyes, no bother
I could use some water

Climbing back to where we were, it's all but gone
Crawl back to the days of youth
What I've learned I've now forgotten again
Could I please be taught how to speak
The heat is melting me away, I'm bothered
I could use a deep breath

Climbing back to where we were, it's all but gone
Crawl back to the days of youth

I want to go to the shade where I learned the language of youth
Let's cool down, it's the heat that affects everything
Let's cool down
Forming words inside my throat

Climbing back to where we were, it's all but gone
Crawl back to the days of youth

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Good Tiger's song Young Speak discuss the struggle of growing up and losing touch with the innocence and simplicity of childhood. The lines, "Climbing back to where we were, it's all but gone / Crawl back to the days of youth," express the desire to return to a time before the weight of responsibility and complexity had set in. The reference to "the shore" and "the sand" conjure up images of the beach, a place often associated with carefree and joyful times. The heat mentioned in the later verses could be interpreted as the pressure and stress of adult life, as it's "melting" the singer away. The phrase "What I've learned I've now forgotten again / Could I please be taught how to speak" suggests that the singer has lost touch with their own voice and needs guidance to find it once more.

Overall, the lyrics of Young Speak invite listeners to reflect on the passage of time and the impact it has on our sense of self. They speak to the common experience of feeling lost or disconnected from our own identity and the longing to reclaim the simplicity and joy of youth.

In what way? Perhaps you can explain the reasoning behind your statement.

@cremejockey8636

For real. I wonder if it’s the drummer or the inclusion of guitar riffs Elliot wrote which of course he already knows how to sing to

@cremejockey8636
