Psycho
Grammatrain Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

They kicked your teeth for pleasure's sake
You hope to die before you wake
And I had a dream that I would take you away

And I'd like to free you
And I won't deceive you
The rain is falling,
Pain is scalding you, you

Can you believe in any good
When you've been hurt and misunderstood
With no such thing as the "goodness of men"
To redeem myself from others sin

And I'd like to free you
And I won't deceive you
The rain is falling,
Pain is scalding you, you

Can you believe in any good (no)
When you've been hurt and misunderstood (no)
With no such thing as the "goodness of men" (no)
Redeem myself from others' sin (no)

And I'd like to free you
And I won't deceive you

The rain is falling,
Pain is scalding you, you

Overall Meaning

The song "Psycho" by Grammatrain is a harrowing tale of abuse and the desire to rescue someone from the pain they are experiencing. The opening lines describe someone who has been beaten and physically assaulted, with the perpetrator finding pleasure in their pain. The victim is so broken that they wish for death rather than continue to suffer. The singer, on the other hand, dreams of taking this person away from their torment, offering them a chance at freedom from their abuser.

The lyrics then delve into the deeper emotional and psychological scars that come with abuse. The victim is left questioning whether they can believe in any good, having been hurt and misunderstood by others. There is no redemption for the abusers, and the person who wants to free the victim feels obligated to make up for the wrongs that have been done to them. The repeated lines "And I'd like to free you, and I won't deceive you, the rain is falling, pain is scalding you" drive home the urgency and empathy that the singer feels towards the person in pain.

Overall, Grammatrain does an excellent job of capturing the trauma and aftermath of abuse in "Psycho." It is a powerful and emotionally raw song that leaves an impression on the listener.
