Undivine Election
Grammatrain Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I wear a face that seems to be confidentiality
The only eyes that see in me
Know my desperality
And I'm a man who's found his way
By having not a lot to say
I wanna tell you that I need you
I know they really think they see
An image of maturity
But if I was what I should be
Wouldn't I be on my knees
And I'm a man who's found his way
By having not a lot to say
I wanna tell you that I need you
And when I fall into your hand

I see myself for what I am
It only shows me that I need you

Overall Meaning

The opening line of Grammatrain's song Undivine Election is a reflection of the persona that the singer of the song has built around himself. He seems to be private about his innermost emotions, and no one understands that he feels desperate from within. He is a man of few words who has found his way in life by keeping to himself. But secretly, he yearns to express his deepest cravings to his beloved.

The second stanza of the song shows us how he feels like an imposter. Everyone around him thinks that he exudes an aura of poise and maturity, but he knows that he is far from it. He feels that if he were to genuinely become who he should be, he would be on his knees, venerating his beloved. He has carved his path in life by being quiet, but now he wants to convey his feelings to the person he loves the most.

In the third stanza, the singer falls into the hands of his beloved, and the experience is revelatory. He sees himself for what he is - someone who needs love and affection. The only way he can be fulfilled is by being with his beloved, and he expresses that sentiment in the last line of the song, where he proclaims that he needs them.
