Are you listening
In the studio
The lights are glistening
A beautiful night
We're happy tonight
Alan Parsons in a winter wonderland
Is the blue bird
Here to stay
Is the new bird
He records a love song
The production's right on
Alan Parsons in a winter wonderland
in the meadow we can build a snowman
And pretend that he is Alan Parsons
He'll say have you listened to my new band
We'll say no but we really like that one song
It goes time keeps flowing like a river
in the winter we can build a snowman
And pretend that he is Alan Parsons
He'll say have you listened to my new band
I can put you on a list
For a show in Carson City
Later on
When we were tired
As we drew
By the fire
Of the eye in the sky
That was with us tonight
Alan Parsons in a winter wonderland
although my favourite songs
Have notes that are wrong
Alan Parsons in a winter wonderland
and there's digital snow
And frozen pianos
Alan Parsons in a winter wonderland
and electronic bands
With frostbitten hands
Alan Parsons in a winter wonderland
at the end of the day
His albums will play
Alan Parsons in a winter wonderland
The song "Alan Parsons in a Winter Wonderland" by Grandaddy is a playful take on the 1934 classic Christmas song "Winter Wonderland." The song begins by describing the recording studio, with the sleigh bells ringing and the lights glistening, creating a beautiful winter wonderland atmosphere. The lyrics then move on to talk about the legendary music producer Alan Parsons, who is recording a love song with perfect production. The song then takes a whimsical turn, as it suggests building a snowman and pretending that he is Alan Parsons while discussing his new band and putting listeners on a list for a show in Carson City. The song ends by acknowledging that while the favorite songs may have "notes that are wrong," Alan Parsons' albums will always play.
The lyrics of this song can be interpreted in a variety of ways. One interpretation could be that the winter wonderland setting represents the music industry, which can be both beautiful and harsh. The mention of Alan Parsons creates a sense of nostalgia as he is a legendary producer who worked with many iconic bands, such as Pink Floyd and The Beatles. Building a snowman and pretending it is Alan Parsons could represent the desire to create something new and make a name in the music industry, even if it means pretending to be someone else.
