After attending Northeastern University in Boston, Black pursued an internship at a record label in London, England. There, he immersed himself in the music scene, exploring various aspects such as writing, photography, and composing. Haux began his career by recording tracks and sharing them on SoundCloud, eventually releasing his first digital EP, "The Bluest Sage," on December 8, 2014. In 2016, he released his debut physical EP, "All We've Known," on Akira Records, drawing comparisons to artists like Bon Iver, C Duncan, and Benjamin Francis Leftwich.
Over the following years, Haux continued to release dreamy singles such as "Touch," "Youth," and "Cologne," which were later compiled into his 2018 EP, "Something to Remember." However, during a European tour after the EP's release, Haux experienced severe anxiety, prompting him to take a break from music and confront his formative trauma.
On July 17, 2020, Haux released his debut full-length album, "Violence in a Quiet Mind." The album delves into the themes of family struggles with substance abuse, trauma, and the importance of confronting personal demons for healing. Through introspective and deeply personal songs, Haux reflects on the loss of loved ones, particularly his aunts, and the generational struggle with addiction within his family.
The album was recorded on the Isle of Harris in Scotland, a place significant to Haux's mother, creating an isolated and emotionally charged environment for channeling his feelings. Co-produced by Jamie Macneal and Thomas Bartlett, the album maintains an intimate atmosphere that captures the raw emotions and vulnerability of Haux's storytelling.
Haux hopes that "Violence in a Quiet Mind" will spark conversations about mental health, addiction, and the importance of honesty and empathy. By sharing his own experiences and struggles, Haux aims to provide solace and support for listeners as they confront their own challenges and seek healing from past traumas. The album invites audiences on an intimate and contemplative journey, encouraging self-reflection and embracing the power of healing through music.

Remember the hearts that you risk
It's when you're tongue tied
It's when you can't hide
You follow the words
You follow the words from the caves
Settle the bets from your change
It's at the slack tide (slack tide)
Or when you can't cry (can't cry)
You follow the words
You follow the words from the caves
Take your last supply
(Take your last supply)
To leave this home behind
Take your last supply
(Take your last supply)
To leave this home behind
(Leave it all behind)
Tear up the letters you've saved
From all the love left astray
It's from the white lies (white lies)
When you were knee high (knee high)
You follow the words
You follow the words from the caves
Take your last supply
To leave this home behind
(Leave it all behind)
Take your last supply
To leave this home behind
(Leave it all behind)
Instrumental
If I could hold you
If I would dare
If I could save you
From standing there
If you could hold me (hold me)
If you would dare (would dare)
If I could stop you (stop you)
From running scared (running)
Scared
Take your last supply
To leave this home behind
(Leave it all behind)
Take your last supply
To leave this home behind
(Leave it all behind).
The verses of HAUX's "Caves" suggest that the persona is in a transformative point in his life, where he is learning to let go of the past and embrace the future. The lines "Forget all the faces you've missed, remember the hearts that you risk" imply the persona's acknowledgment of letting go of negative experiences and instead focusing on meaningful memories. The context of the song suggests that the persona is dealing with emotional baggage that he is trying to overcome. In the chorus, he urges listeners to follow the words from the caves which may mean that he is searching for answers in his past experiences, to help him navigate present circumstances or to give him hope for future results, even if he has to leave everything behind or risk being held back from reaching his destination. The song's lyrics showcase the idea of one being at a turning point in their life, and that moving on may require a lot of emotional risks.
The refrain "take your last supply, to leave this home behind...leave it all behind" hints that the persona is urging himself and, by extension, his audience to take the necessary steps to make the change and not let the past limit them. He suggests that to move forward, emotions, memories and feelings symbolized by a person's supplies, may prevent them from being truly free. The persona seems to understand that it’s not an easy decision to make but it is necessary: "unbuckle the belt, it's your pain". The final verses of the song highlight the urgency of the persona's desire to overcome whatever he's dealing with. As he sings "If I could hold you, if I would dare, if I could save you from standing there," he's hinting at a connection to the struggles of others who may also be at a turning point in their lives. The song ends on a hopeful note, with the persona urging listeners about their last chance to leave things behind, take their last supply to leave 'home' behind.
Overall, the song is a heartfelt reflection on moving on from the emotional and mental burdens that one carries. The persona acknowledges the pain of letting go, but ultimately stresses that it is necessary for forward progress.
