After attending Northeastern University in Boston, Black pursued an internship at a record label in London, England. There, he immersed himself in the music scene, exploring various aspects such as writing, photography, and composing. Haux began his career by recording tracks and sharing them on SoundCloud, eventually releasing his first digital EP, "The Bluest Sage," on December 8, 2014. In 2016, he released his debut physical EP, "All We've Known," on Akira Records, drawing comparisons to artists like Bon Iver, C Duncan, and Benjamin Francis Leftwich.
Over the following years, Haux continued to release dreamy singles such as "Touch," "Youth," and "Cologne," which were later compiled into his 2018 EP, "Something to Remember." However, during a European tour after the EP's release, Haux experienced severe anxiety, prompting him to take a break from music and confront his formative trauma.
On July 17, 2020, Haux released his debut full-length album, "Violence in a Quiet Mind." The album delves into the themes of family struggles with substance abuse, trauma, and the importance of confronting personal demons for healing. Through introspective and deeply personal songs, Haux reflects on the loss of loved ones, particularly his aunts, and the generational struggle with addiction within his family.
The album was recorded on the Isle of Harris in Scotland, a place significant to Haux's mother, creating an isolated and emotionally charged environment for channeling his feelings. Co-produced by Jamie Macneal and Thomas Bartlett, the album maintains an intimate atmosphere that captures the raw emotions and vulnerability of Haux's storytelling.
Haux hopes that "Violence in a Quiet Mind" will spark conversations about mental health, addiction, and the importance of honesty and empathy. By sharing his own experiences and struggles, Haux aims to provide solace and support for listeners as they confront their own challenges and seek healing from past traumas. The album invites audiences on an intimate and contemplative journey, encouraging self-reflection and embracing the power of healing through music.

HAUX Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Our minds are troubled by the emptiness.
Destroy the middle, it's a waste of time.
From the perfect start to the finish line.
And if you're still breathing, you're the lucky ones.
'Cause most of us are heaving through corrupted lungs.
Setting fire to our insides for fun
The lovers that went wrong.
We are the reckless,
We are the wild youth
Chasing visions of our futures
One day we'll reveal the truth
That one will die before he gets there.
And if you're still bleeding, you're the lucky ones.
'Cause most of our feelings, they are dead and they are gone.
We're setting fire to our insides for fun.
Collecting pictures from a flood that wrecked our home,
It was a flood that wrecked this home.
And you caused it,
And you caused it,
And you caused it
Well I've lost it all, I'm just a silhouette,
A lifeless face that you'll soon forget,
My eyes are damp from the words you left,
Ringing in my head, when you broke my chest.
Ringing in my head, when you broke my chest.
And if you're in love, then you are the lucky one,
'Cause most of us are bitter over someone.
Setting fire to our insides for fun,
To distract our hearts from ever missing them.
But I'm forever missing him.
And you caused it,
And you caused it,
And you caused it
The opening lyrics to HAUX's song Youth set a somber and reflective mood. The shadows that settle on the place that was left creates a sense of emptiness and loss, leaving the minds of those remaining in the place troubled. The line "destroy the middle, it's a waste of time" suggests that the middle part of something, like a relationship or a journey, may be insignificant in the grand scheme of things. The song emphasizes the importance of the start and the finish, the beginning and the end, where the purpose and the conclusion of something lie.
The chorus highlights the recklessness of youth, how they are constantly chasing their visions of the future with a no-holds-barred attitude. However, this carefree and often destructive nature comes at a cost, as most people are struggling through life with deep-seated issues, going so far as to set fire to their insides for fun. The lyrics convey a sense of burden, a heaviness and lost youth that we all experience in different ways. It's clear that most people are plagued by regret, whether it's for the people they've lost or the experiences they've missed out on.
The final verse of the song brings things full circle, returning to the idea of heartbreak and loss. The lines "Well I've lost it all, I'm just a silhouette, a lifeless face that you'll soon forget" depict the aftermath of having one's heart broken, where the pain is all-consuming and the future looks bleak. Yet, despite the hurt, the song still manages to end on a note of hope. It acknowledges that to be in love is a blessing in itself, and that even though many of us carry bitterness with us, we cannot help but miss the one we loved and lost.

Haux managed to take something perfect and somehow make it a different kind of perfect. It's like he took the song from a parallel universe over into his own
