Tilt You Back
Halsey Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I saw two faces in the light, of a dead end street
Begged them for a smoke and we started to speak
Counting bricks in the wall, and my voice cracks
I said "you see I've got this boy
And he don't love me back. "

So we walked for a bit, and jesse grabs me hard
He said "come back down to earth
From where ever you are. "
But his words don't register, I'm lost in your eyes
And this dial tone will kill me by the end of night

Come on and wrap me up, let me tilt you back and swim
I want your taste on my tongue
Won't you warm my bones within?
Reveal yourself to me, on this dark and empty street
You can feel yourself in me, swallow you down so easily

Now it's getting kind of late, so I thank them for their time
Trip over sidewalk blocks and slurred words
That I know aren't even mine
Jack's a better friend than jesse
Cause he puts the pain to ease
Though I know I'll be alone tonight
Despite how much I bleed?

Come on and wrap me up, let me tilt you back and swim
I want your taste on my tongue
Won't you warm my bones within?
Reveal yourself to me, on this dark and empty street
You can feel yourself in me, swallow you down so easily

Half closed eyes and my shoes untied
Know I'll be falling asleep in my levi's tonight
Jack's a lonely friend, despite what I intend
Know I'll be waking up to messages I couldn't send?

Come on and wrap me up, let me tilt you back and swim
I want your taste on my tongue
Won't you warm my bones within?
Reveal yourself to me, on this dark and empty street

You can feel yourself in me, swallow you down so easily

Reveal yourself to me, on this dark and empty street
You can feel yourself in me, swallow you down so easily

Overall Meaning

What I hear as the lyrics:
I saw two faces in the light
Of a dead end street
Begged them for a smoke
And we started to speak
Counting bricks in the wall
And my voice cracks
I said
"You see I got this boy and he don't love me back"
So we walk for a bit
And Jesse grabs me hard
He says
"Come back down to earth from wherever you are"
But his words don't register
And I'm lost in your eyes
And this dial tone'll kill me by the end of the night

Come on and wrap me up
Let me tilt you back and spin
Well I want your taste on my tongue
Won't you warm my bones within?

Reveal yourself to me
On this dark and empty street
And you can feel yourself in me
Swallow you down so easily

And it's getting pretty late
So I thank them for their time
Trip over sidewalk blocks
and the slurred words I know aren't even mine
And Jack's a better friend than Jesse
Cause he puts the pain to ease
Though I know I'll be alone tonight
Despite how much I plead

Wrap me up
Let me tilt you back and spin
Well I want your taste on my tongue
Won't you warm my bones within?

Reveal yourself to me
On this dark and empty street
And you can feel yourself in me
Swallow you down so easily

Half-closed eyes and my shoelaces untied
Know I'll be falling asleep in my levi's tonight
And Jack's a lonely friend
Despite what I intend
Know I'll be waking up to messages that I couldn't send

Come on and wrap me up
Let me tilt you back and spin
Well I want your taste on my tongue
Won't you warm my bones within?

Reveal yourself to me
On this dark and empty street
And you can feel yourself in me
Swallow you down so easily

Reveal yourself to me
On this dark and empty street
And you can feel yourself in me
Swallow you down so easily

it's crazy how back then she was Ashley, then Halsey who said Ashley was weak, but now she's embracing Ashley. i mean she revealed her album with "hi my name is Ashley, nice to meet you". and i'm so excited for manic to be more about her

@gabypolo3193

When did she say Ashley was weak? I wanna see the video or article :)

@HappySwiftie92

The way half of the fandom didn't praise Manic like her albums before and to me is my favorite as It was so so personal... (I LOVE all of them btw(

@samanthamiller7267

crazy kid this one. just be (A person in my life). simple. obvious.

@laoricevinge6641

I wonder if Halsey ever sings this, and remembers her life before fame? Like, when she could keep her relationships private e.t.c. and just take time to just breathe. Don't get me wrong I love all of her music, from Room 93 to her covers, Badlands and HFK, but I always wonder whether she ever feels like more of a brand than an individual now? She says that Ashley was weak, but that's what made, and makes, her music so raw, and so beautiful.

@thegirlnamedjessicamccown9194

im sure she forgot who she is or how she got herself to where she is now

@mannctl9191

Now that manic is out I think you can ask yourself this question again :)

@mihawa9432

@@thegirlnamedjessicamccown9194 i mean she was a teenager and she's a grown adult now, it has less to do with forgetting who you are, people just grow and change

@bekindtotheonesthatyoulove4894

And now we have Ashley back in Manic

@eviedifiore1794

I'm so mad she didn't record this and put it on iTunes.
