This Is War
Ill Niño Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

He was enslaved, to the dirty system, pero muriу (to face the end) mother fucking come on
This was the final mission
His life had just begun
It all had to be so fucked up
His death to me, so fucked up
His face remains so deathless

[Chorus:]

This is war
And I swear that I'm not giving up or giving in
This is war?
Then I swear that I'm not giving up or giving in
Giving up
This life is war
This is war

Society is a loaded weapon
No one is exempt from the bullet within
El sistema (the system) is a prime example
De lo que pasa cuando (of what's to happen next)
The streets could be so fucked up
His destiny so fucked up
His face remain so deathless

[Repeat Chorus]

Dios mio, alma mia, їpor que me as llevado la vida?
(God of mine, soul of mine, why have you taken my life)
Cuando yo todo te lo he dado (when I have given everything to you)
En mi hora de muerte, no me dejes morir (in my hour of need, don't let me die)
Necesito otra vida, Necesito que me digas (give me another breath, Speak to me)

Is this war? Is this war?
This is war

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Ill Niño’s song This Is War convey the message of the brutal, unrelenting nature of life. The song opens with the powerful image of an individual enslaved to a corrupt system, facing the inevitability of death. The phrase “his face remains so deathless” emphasizes the enervating, soulless nature of the system, which strips human beings of their identity and reduces them to mere cogs in a machine. The chorus of the song features the singer stating that they refuse to give up or give in, indicating that they will continue to fight no matter how bleak the circumstances are.

The second verse delves deeper into the oppressive nature of society, comparing it to a loaded weapon with nobody exempt from its destructive power. Here, “el sistema” or “the system” is held up as a prime example of this destructive force, further extending the idea that society itself is broken and corrupt. The lines “His destiny so fucked up, his face remains so deathless” calls back to the first verse, emphasizing how there seems to be only one fearful outcome no matter what one does in this world.

The final verse takes a more spiritual tone, with the singer questioning God’s indifference to their suffering. The lines “give me another breath, Speak to me” imply a desire for renewal, perhaps the hope for spiritual transformation or a need for a change that comes in this world or the afterlife. The chorus is repeated one final time, with the repeated phrase “This is war” underscoring the message that life is the battlefield and only those who fight until the end have a chance to emerge victorious.
