Its OK
Imagine Dragons Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

She could always hear every word they say
Everybody walks like they just know the way
Every single day, holdin' back the tears
She'd never say a word 'cause there's nobody that hears

It's okay to be not okay
It's just fine to be out of your mind
Breathe in deep, just a day at a time (ooh, ooh)
'Cause it's okay to be out of your mind, mind

Mine is broken, how is yours?
Sure it helps to hear the news and political discourse
Fear, that is what he felt
Every single day, 'cause all the boys would play
Don't you dare be weak, emasculated freak
Last up on the fence, tell me where's the sense?

It's okay to be not okay
It's just fine to be out of your mind
Breathe in deep, just a day at a time (ooh, ooh)
'Cause it's okay to be out of your mind

I don't want this body, I don't want this voice
I don't wanna be here but I guess I have no choice
Just let me live my truth, that's all I wanna do
Baby, you're not broken, just a little bit confused

It's okay to be not okay (I need you here with me)
It's just fine to be out of your mind (I can't do it all alone)
Breathe in deep, just a day at a time (just a day at a time)
'Cause it's okay to be out of your mind (it's okay, out of your mind)
It's okay to be not okay (I need you here with me)
It's just fine to be out of your mind (I can't do it all alone)
Breathe in deep, just a day at a time (just a day at a time)
'Cause it's okay to be out of your mind (it's okay, out of your mind)
(Ga-da, la-la, la-la, la-la, la)

Da, da, da, da-da
Da, da, da, da-da
Da, da, da, da-da
Da, da, da, da-da
Da, da, da, da-da
Da, da, da, da-da

Da, da, da, da-da

Overall Meaning

In Imagine Dragons's song "It," the lyrics paint a picture of two different individuals facing their own struggles and feeling misunderstood. The first verse describes a woman who is constantly surrounded by people but feels isolated because no one seems to listen to her. She holds back her tears and chooses to remain silent. The chorus reassures her that it's okay to not be okay and that it's fine to feel like you are out of your mind. The lyrics encourage her to take one day at a time and to let go of the pressure to conform to other people's standards.

The second verse introduces a man who is anxious and fearful. He is constantly surrounded by his peers who mock him for showing any signs of weakness. He wonders where the sense is in trying to fit in with people who only seem to value strength and masculinity. The chorus reassures him that it's okay to not be okay and that he doesn't have to face his struggles alone.

The bridge of the song is a plea for understanding and acceptance. The lyrics suggest that sometimes people don't want their current circumstances and that they don't feel like they have a choice. The singer asks to be allowed to live their own truth and to be accepted even though they may be confused.

Overall, "It" is a song about acceptance and self-love. The lyrics encourage individuals to embrace their emotions and to be okay with feeling vulnerable. The chorus reinforces the message of the song by stating that it's okay to feel like you are out of your mind and that it's important to take things one day at a time.

Of course it's ok to feel all the emotions: let them flow & let them go. It's when they get stuck, it becomes a problem.

Ironically while we all (in developed countries) pretend to be ok, or only show the "highlight reel" on social media, the reality is that the majority of the world is actually depressed, anxious, in pain, living in fear, living in oppressed countries, living in poverty, abuse, homeless, sick, in war torn countries or suffering with the thoughts in our own minds.

It's ok to be not ok. Then work on transforming the negative energy into positive energy, for your own sake and the sake of Humanity. We can do this by learning to distance our True Higher Selves from the thoughts in our minds. Then we can feel the love & peace that's already within (just hidden by all the thoughts & visions in our minds).

They've gotten so much more chill melodically, but way more heavy lyrically.

The whole world tells us to feel ok, it's a relief to be able to hear that you CAN feel bad sometimes, because life isn't a movie where everything is perfect
