Vanishing Light
In Flames Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Vanishing light,
The end of a compromise,
In fury and rage,
A dream will diminish.

Behind enemy lines,
Learn to survive,
Find a way to clone,
Make friends and a place to call home.

Take a picture, and jump before we crush,
Take a picture, and jump before we crush.

Slide away,
Learn your ways and fire when ready,
This is the race to no-man's land,
But who knows the direction.

Your on the easy route,
Money up front? There's no doubt.

Take a picture, and jump before we crush,
Take a picture, and jump before we crush.

Slide away,
Learn your ways and fire when ready,
This is the race to no-man's land,
But who knows the direction.

It's so, so sad, but pay no mind.

Take a picture, and jump before we crush,
Take a picture, and jump before we crush.

Slide away,
Learn your ways and fire when ready,

This is the race to no-man's land,
But who knows the direction.

this a "classic" in flames song on this album. in fact let me list their "classic" songs for their albums since clayman ok?

clud connected - due to its heavyness
minus - due to the late guitar progression and solo in the 2nd half

my sweet shadow - for beeing the most heavy song on that album

vanishing light due to its intro and its musical progrssion and overall sound

alias - due to its very classic "in flames esque" acoustic parts n solo
im the highway - due to its musical build and its solos and double bass drumming
sober and irrelevant - due to just how it sounds in its music build and sheer speed and heavyness

fear is the weakness - due to acoustic part and its melodic sound that really also capture in flames classic sound
a new dawn - due to its melodic sound and its wondefull parts with violins mixed with its heavy guitars

siren charms dont have anything classic to mention, idk

the end - the solo in that is classic af and its heavy

burn - its solos and heavy sound makes it a good candidate for this list

thats it! hope you take a listen and see what i mean, they still got it if they just want to!

@zyriuz2 I think your definition of "classic" In Flames is not what classic In Flames really is, but I won't argue with you about that since, at the end of the day, it's subjective. However, I will tell you this:

Although you kinda have a point with your view of what "classic" In Flames is, it has been physically impossible for the Iineups that In Flames has had over the years since 2009 to "get it if they want to" as you say.
That's because the founder and soul of In Flames, Jesper Strömblad, was the main driving force and composer/songwriter/riffmaker however you wanna call him. Since day 1, HE was In Flames.
He clearly shifted the way he used to write music from Reroute onward as you already know, but when he left the band in 2009, "In Flames" died. Nowadays it is just an empty shell, the empty body of what it used to be.

On top of that, the band has been facing a lot of pressure from its label for quite some time now, and you can hear it in the quality of the music they have released over the last decade. Utter commercial bullshit in my opinion. It's not just that Jesper is not there, it's mostly not even good music in my opinion... You could perhaps pick up crumbs of what In Flames used to be on their latest albums and MAYBE get to 2 minutes...

In case you need more proof, just listen to his new band The Halo Effect if you haven't already. The project is in no way, shape or form directly related to In Flames, but it has old In Flames members, including Jesper. You will definitely be able to hear some "In Flames" when you listen to their new songs, because Jesper is in it.

Summarizing, they cannot "get it", even if they really wanted to. No Jesper, no In Flames, it's just what it is.
