Peril Eyes
Informatik Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Faded time all that's left behind
Step into my point of view
Understand my attitude
I'm paralyzed
By your peril eyes
Happiness is not a crime
Yesterday is not today
Must let go but never throw away
I need to be certain
Shall I feel no sorrow
How can there be a future
When there's no tomorrow
The lyrics to Informatik's song Peril Eyes are about the struggle of living in the present while being haunted by the past. The opening lines, "Empty mind lost colour blind, Faded time all that's left behind" describe the singer's state of mind - he feels numb and disconnected, his memories have lost their vibrancy and he's left with nothing but emptiness. However, he invites the listener to "Step into my point of view, Understand my attitude", indicating that he wants to share his perspective and be understood.
The chorus, "I'm paralyzed by your peril eyes" is an interesting turn of phrase. It suggests that the singer is paralyzed not by his own fears or insecurities, but by the gaze of someone else - perhaps someone who has hurt him in the past. The use of the word "peril" implies that this person poses a threat, or that their gaze puts him in danger.
The rest of the lyrics deal with the struggle to find happiness in the present while still acknowledging the pain of the past. The lines "Why am I unsatisfied, Happiness is not a crime" suggest that the singer feels guilty for not being happy - perhaps he believes that he should have moved on from his pain by now. But he also recognizes that "Yesterday is not today, Must let go but never throw away", indicating that he understands the importance of processing his past without completely abandoning it. The final lines, "I need to be certain, Shall I feel no sorrow, How can there be a future When there's no tomorrow" suggest that the singer is still searching for answers, and that he's not sure how to move forward.
