He Knows My Name
Israel & New Breed Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Lord we lift up our hands to you Jesus
Father we love you

I have a Maker
He formed my heart
Before even time began
My life was in his hands
He knows my name
He knows my every thought
He sees each tear that falls
And hears me when I call

I have a father (so glad I have a father)
He calls me his own
He'll never leave me (that's what He said)
No matter where I go

He knows my name (He said He knows my name, oh yes He does)
He knows my every thought (He sees each tear that falls)
He sees each tear that falls
And hears me when I call

He knows my name (He said He knows my name, He knows my name)
He knows my every thought (He sees each tear that falls)
He sees each tear that falls
And hears me when I call

And He hears me when I call
He hears me when I call (you hear me when I call, you are my father)
He hears me when I call (you are my father and I love you, and you call me by name)
He hears me when I call (you are my father and I love you, and you call me by name)
He hears me when I call (you are my father and I love you, love you, love)
He knows my name
He knows my every thought
He sees each tear that falls
And hears me when I call

Overall Meaning

The song "He Knows My Name" by Israel & New Breed is a beautiful declaration of the personal relationship between a believer and God. The song starts by acknowledging the position of the believers as they lift their hands up to Jesus and express their love for their heavenly Father. The next three lines directly make reference to God as the Maker, who formed every individual's heart even before they were born. The songwriters emphasize that God's hands are not only responsible for creation, but also for controlling every aspect of life. Therefore, believers could enjoy the assurance of God's love and care for them.

The chorus of the song contains the main verse that affirms the song's title, "He knows my name." This statement indicates God's personal knowledge of each person and his/her every thought. The songwriters then proceed to provide evidence of God's awareness of every individual by stating that God sees and collects every tear that falls from one's eye. Lastly, the songwriters reiterate the beauty of the relationship between the believer and God as a father and his child. There is a sense of confidence in the lyrics that God will never leave or forsake the believer, no matter where he/she may go.

I remember about 7yrs ago I taught my step daughter(5), GOD daughter (5) and lil sis (8) a praise dance to this song for a church talent show.. I really had no faith in them that they would remember the moves because they only had one day to learn them and they wasn’t even paying attention to me and was all over the place when I was teaching them!! So the day of the show I was like y’all really wanna do this y’all didn’t get much time to practice they was so excited and was like yeah.. do they went on stage my lil brother (4) that was there with us through the practice stage asked can he get on stage with them I said sure he couldn’t mess it up more then them why not in my head nobody knew the moves anyways but I can not make this up they all knew they part and did a very great job and did not mess up not one time my brother knew all 3 parts I was so shocked and happy y’all they made me cry lol this is a true story till this day they all still sing this song. On top of that we probably only was Easter and Christmas church goers so the kids really don’t know nothing about praise dancing but till this day I’m still so proud of them

I just lost my dear wife, whom I have known for 10 years, through a tragic road accident. It has completely shattered me and my heart is so broken - I feel lost and overwhelmed by grief. Its only God who is keeping me alive at this point, He says that he sees every tear that falls and that He knew me even before I was born; that gives me strength and peace coz in the back of my mind I know that He has everything planned out and my dear wife is at His feet, laughing and happy as she always was.

@carlamcmullen1

So sorry for your loss...though it was 6 years ago.
