Going down, down, down, down, down
I'm going down
Going down, down, down, down, down
Got my big feet,
Hanging on to the ground
Don't let me down,
Close that boxcar down
Close that boxcar down
I'm going back
to the station,
Tell my woman farewell
I'm going back to the station,
Tell my woman farewell
If she don't see me in the balance here,
Lord, you know she ain't gonna see me in Frisco fare
The lyrics of J. Spaceman's song "Going Down Slow" convey a sense of resignation, as the singer acknowledges he is on a downward spiral. The repetition of the phrase "going down" reinforces his sense of defeat, as if he knows there is no turning back. His "big feet hanging onto the ground" suggest a heaviness or a feeling of being stuck, unable to move forward.
As the song progresses, he asks the listener not to let him down and to close the boxcar down. This seems to be a plea for help, either to someone specific or to a higher power. He then mentions going back to the station to tell his woman farewell. The sense of finality is palpable, and the mention of Frisco as his final destination reinforces the idea that he is headed towards something ominous.
Overall, "Going Down Slow" is a haunting song that captures a sense of desperation and hopelessness. Despite the singer's plea for help, the repetitive nature of the lyrics suggests that his fate is sealed.
