Jackie Evancho Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There was a field in my old town
Where we always played hand in hand
The wind was gently touching the grass
We were so young so fearless

Then I dreamt over and over
Of you holding me tight under the stars
I made a promise to my dear Lord
I will love you forever

Time has passed
So much has changed
But the field remains in my heart

Oh, where are you?
I need to tell you I still love you
So I reach out for you
You fly around me like a butterfly

Your voice still echoes in my heart
You are my true love

There was a field in my old town
Where in spring all flowers blossomed wide
We were chasing butterflies
Hand in hand 'till close of day

Your voice still echoes in my heart

Overall Meaning

In Jackie Evancho's song, "Lovers," the singer reminisces about a beautiful memory she shared with a lover in a field in her old town. They used to play there hand in hand, surrounded by the gentle touch of the wind on the grass. Despite being young and fearless, the singer had a dream of the lover holding her under the stars and made a promise to love them forever. Time has passed, and much has changed, but the field still holds a special place in the singer's heart. She longs to tell her lover, who she can still hear echoing in her heart, that she still loves them as much as she did back then.

The lyrics of "Lovers" evoke a sense of nostalgia and longing for a past love. The imagery of the field and butterflies add to the whimsical and romantic feeling of the song. The dream of being held under the stars creates a magical and intimate moment between the singer and her lover. The promise to love forever is an affirmation of the passionate and enduring love they shared. The singer's desire to reach out and connect with her lover speaks to the universal experience of wanting to hold onto a love that has passed.

12 years later, this performance still blows my mind. This has to be one of the greatest stage set ups I have ever seen, as the instruments sound phenomenal in this song. And then preteen Jackie appears in the spotlight and takes center stage with her voice that tugs on my heart strings even to this day. A generational talent.

this was a multi million dollar production david foster brought in musicians from all over for this , ..Jacky said she made a very special effort for this song ,,, and yet it is so underrated ..it is her best performance ...

@Naisgaming1

This is in my opinion Jackie's best performance. She more then nailed it. I could listen to it over and over again. Her control is amazing, she puts her heart into the words and you can feel it. I love love love this song!! Jackie evancho has a voice like no other.

I loved this when I first heard it, awesome. The voice, the instrumentation, if that doesn't make you take notice I don't know what would. I lost my love a year ago, now it has taken on even more meaning, makes me cry.

THAT was one EXTRAORDINARY Concert! Ten years later, she continues to sing beautifully, but the impact of the setting, the orchestras, the lighting, and the special chemistry which is unexplainable combined to make magic that evening.

16-time Grammy winner, David Foster, produced this concert for PBS Great Performances following his having produced the album "Dream With Me" for Jackie which soon went Gold. It was her second album following her EP, "Oh Holy Night" which sold over a million copies making her the youngest solo artist in US history to go Platinum. Imagine that this brilliant, talented little girl had a Platinum and a Gold album her first 2 years as a professional singer. At 11 she was the youngest solo artist in history to headline her own concert at Lincoln Center. That was the beginning. Since then she had performed another PBS solo concert at age 12, and another at age 14. Today, at 19, she has had 8 consecutive albums hit #1 on the Billboard Classical Chart.
