Nessun Dorma
Jackie Evancho Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Nessun dorma, nessun dorma
Tu pure, o principessa
Nella tua fredda stanza
Guardi le stelle
Che tremano d'amore
E di speranza

Ma il mio mistero è chiuso in me
Il nome mio nessun saprà
No, no, sulla tua bocca lo dirò
Quando la luce splenderà
Ed il mio bacio scioglierà il silenzio
Che ti fa mia

Dilegua, o notte
Tramontate, stelle
Tramontate, stelle
All'alba vincerò

Vincerò, vincerò
Vincerò

Overall Meaning

The song Nessun Dorma, beautifully performed by Jackie Evancho, is a powerful and emotional piece that tells a story of a love that is hidden in secret. The lyrics express the idea of a princess who is alone in her cold room, looking up at the stars that tremble with love and hope. The singer, who loves the princess deeply, admits that his mystery is locked within himself, and his name is something no one will ever know. However, he reveals that he will tell her his true name when the light shines and his kiss breaks the silence that makes her his.

As the song continues, the singer begs the night and the stars to disappear, and declares that he will triumph at dawn. The piece reveals the strength of love that is powerful enough to overcome secrecy, silence, and the darkness of the night. The song is a powerful expression of love and hope and showcases the beautiful voice of Jackie Evancho to its fullest extent.

Jackie is a living miracle. This performance is beyond stunning. Her voice is in perfect tune, she has beautiful musical interpretation, her voice is pure, and her diction is excellent...In Italian. I have heard this girl sing in Latin, French, Italian and English...Folks...She was 11 years old for this performance! There is no praise high enough for this angel!

@Jordan Nash no need to look

@Rosaire Dubrule If you mean Barbara Bonney, soprano b.1956, there is a definite resemblance [other than Bonney's fast vibrato, since Jackie has slowed hers down to Classical crossover and all other.

Barbara also has beautiful overtones, but not too many are audible so she sounds bell-like. [I use a Frequency Analyzer which is a much broader ranged tool to look at the overtones.]

Good catch.

@Jordan Nash this is mainly from musicologists using an oscilloscope. they compare her to b bonney goat

Now 21 Ms. Evancho closed her concert in Ft. Lauderdale last night with excerpts of this aria. Folks, she is every bit as marvelous a singer as she was here, but now with a stage presence and confidence that allows her to move between genres with skill and grace. Don't miss her concert if you have a chance to experience her live. She is a world treasure!

I think when her voice matures she may be one of the greatest mezzo sopranos ever...

Allen Jones

She already IS one of the greatest mezzo sopranos of all time, if not THE greatest!

@Pat Downs I'll bet people are laughing over how daft your comment is that Jackie would get laughed off stage
