The Man
Jason Black Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Got a whiplash tongue
That is sharp like a razor
With a kill switch mind a role manipulator
And you're so alive
I can see you on the marquee
You're in overdrive
But you're lookin'
For the Soul key
You're a big bone lick
And I feel your vibration
A Dog and Pony
Trick
You know you need a
Vacation
With your mighty fine
Wealth

Now you're livin'
In a typhoon
You Better check your health
I See the risin' of the
Black Moon
The Man
Man In The Middle
Tell me can
Can you cry me a riddle
You can't see the light
And the darkness
Has fallen upon you
And you live and die

In the madness
That gathers around you
In a big black car
Now you're full of ambition
You're a Rock 'n Roll Star
With a killer condition
Talk so cheap
And I heard it on the
Grapvine
You better sow what you reap
Or you be walkin' on a flatline
Can't see the light 'til

You open your eyes
You open your eyes

Overall Meaning

In Jason Black's song, "The Man," the lyrics describe a person with a sharp tongue and manipulative mind, who is constantly seeking success and validation. The person is compared to a "Dog and Pony Trick," suggesting that they are only putting on a show for others. Despite their success, they are still searching for something deeper, something that the lyrics refer to as the "Soul key." This could be interpreted as a search for meaning or purpose beyond material success.

The second verse continues the theme of the person's inner turmoil, as they are living in a state of chaos and darkness. The rising of the "Black Moon" could be seen as a symbol of impending doom or impending change. The chorus asks if the person can "cry me a riddle," suggesting that they are lost and confused and perhaps unable to communicate their feelings. The final lines suggest that the person can only escape their situation by "opening their eyes" and seeing the reality of their situation.

Overall, the lyrics of "The Man" paint a picture of a person who is both successful and deeply troubled, trying to find meaning and purpose in a chaotic world where success is fleeting.

@Tiffy   let me reiterate my initial point. You actually raised something that was irrelevant and that I never put forth. As I stated in my initial comment in regard to his reason for not dealing with bw it was because they were, in his words, disrespectful. Or they didn't show him respect. That's not an analysis that is exclusive to his perspective.

Whether or not he gets married to the women of another race is entirely irrelevant to the fact that he doesn't want to feel like he isn't respected. Marrying a woman that does not respect you as a man is going to be hell on earth. That's not success. So trying to equate his reasoning for not dealing with black women with the end result of marriage is misguided. Additionally, marriage is more so a metric of success for women.

Things do not always work out. Imagine that a woman has the option between dating a physically abusive man and a non abusive man. She chooses to abstain from the abusive men. It does no matter if she gets married to a non abusive man or the end result is they break up. It is also no success if she marries a man that beats her every night. The point is that she does not want to be abused.

Now if he said that the other women also did not show him respect, then you might be able to make an argument about it being him, but to focus on the metric of marriage when the reasoning was a matter of respect is disingenuous at best.

As men are becoming more and more aware of the options outside the US, those numbers will continue to rise. More and more men are in fact marrying women from abroad. Particularly your more successful black men.

This phenomenon of women being this bad is relatively recent and therefore there is a delayed response, but it is occurring. The rate of interracial and abroad marriages for black men are rising, while the rate of the sane for black women dropped.

Again, I would not conflate marriage, which is an institution that has greater legal downsides than benefits for men, with success when the reasoning an individual expressed for leaving bw alone was over respect. If you go elsewhere and get respect, then you succeeded whether or not that relationship works out or not

Never ceases to amaze me how brothers can carry the "trauma" of being rejected by hoodrats during high-school into adulthood. Greg literally slammed sisters because they didn't want him as a goofball teenager. 😆

It's easier for Gregg to say that black women are the totality of his problems than it is to say he just prefers non-black women. Whatever relationship issues he was going to have were gonna happen no matter the race of the woman.

Yea it's clearly a HIM problem. This guy was looking for easy roads. Been with an Asian for 10yrs and had a kid but wasn't good enough to get married to her, na.
