Foster started her own label – now called Fosterchild Records - in 2003. Her debut release, Everybody’s Girl, garnered national radio success at the Triple A format, as well as positive reviews, praising her no-frills, unfiltered lyrics. Songwriting awards followed and she has also secured some impressive Film/TV placements, with songs placed in the popular television soap opera All My Children as well as a recent placement in an American Pie movie sequel.
The title track of Foster’s 2006 sophomore CD, The Underdogs, won “Song of the Year” at the Out Music Awards. Foster grew up in a very conservative, Houston, TX, suburb.
Foster credits another outsider, Ani DiFranco, for inspiration in her business model. “Ani did it her way, and she inspired me to do it my way. I’ve created a fairly unique situation. I’ve built a team of people I trust at my label and also, a community of fans,” Foster proudly notes. “It’s always challenging to take off the artist hat and put on the business hat, but it’s a challenge I embrace. My music means too much to me to blindly put it in someone else’s hands.”
Foster’s new album, "Thirty-Nine," was slated for a 2009 release, and a four-song EP, "Songs From Thirty-Nine," is currently available. The video for the single "Closer To Nowhere" recently reached #1 on the LOGO Channel (MTV Network) charts.

A Day In The Life Of A Rock Star
Jen Foster Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Naked on the stairs, well, could you grab a few beers
All you wannna-bes in your Abercrombie T-s
Hanging off the balcony dancing to "Dancing Queen""
Beautiful people everywhere
We should be working but we really don't care
We've gotta start up this party, 'cause everybody is fine
And there are only good times
Every day in the life of a rock star
Splash down, everybody's in the pool
They're jumping off the roof, full of the 90-proof
While the black stretch waits out in the front yard
We've gotta move this party to the boulevard
Beautiful people everywhere
We should be working but we really don't care
Come as you are – it's just a day in the life of a rock star
We've gotta start up this party, 'cause everybody is fine
And there are only good times
Every day in the life of a rock star
They come in drag, come in jeans and Maybelline
It's like a Hippie-Campy Halloween
They come in cool shades of blues and grays
They've got their Doc Martin leathers laced
You want a backstage pass, you want an autograph
C'mon, Baby, let me sign your ass...
Come as you are – it's just a day in the life of a rock star
We've gotta start up this party, 'cause everybody is fine
And there are only good times
Every day in the life of a rock star...
The lyrics of Jen Foster's "A Day In The Life Of A Rock Star" capture the lifestyle of a rock star, complete with all its trappings and pleasures. The song begins with an invitation to let loose and party with friends, as suggested by the lines "Run your fingers through your bed-head, Naked on the stairs, well could you grab a few beers." The rockstar's world is one of beautiful people everywhere, as they hang off balconies and dance to ABBA's "Dancing Queen." It's a world where work doesn't matter, and everyone is just having a good time.
The chorus of the song invites listeners to come as they are, because everyone is welcome in the rockstar's world. Whether you're dressed up or down, in drag or in jeans, there's a place for you in this world of only good times. The rockstar's party is incomplete without splashing around in the pool or jumping off the roof, fueled by glasses of 90 proof liquor.
Foster's "A Day In The Life Of A Rock Star" is an ode to the extravagant lifestyle of music icons. The lyrics remind us of the excesses and freedom that a rock star's life can offer. It's an invitation to escape reality and live life on the edge, if only for a day.
