Words Underlined
Jesse Marchant Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I woke to human sound
An empty street
Loneliness, a fire going out
I feel estranged
From all the world around
The feeling's grown
I fear I'm letting go
Down the street
At once where worlds collide
And light you alone
In an effort strained
I stopped to find the line
Best ends the poem
Where were you
When all of this was fucked
And on it's side?
Those words I underlined
In your part, you a wreck
You were one foot back
Counting and weighing the odds
You were wrong for it love
There was something there
Now erased to black
With the wrongful acts
Of your warm lit half
You can't rely on me
To straighten you away
Now the weight
Of all that's fallen down
Is mine alone
I see the way
You watched your walk
Of blindness find a home
Well I know that change
To let become as right
What is known
I seen that letting go
And in the parting wreck
You a wounded lamb
You couldn't win in the odds
All your mournful love
Into some thin air
Well I was way in the isles
In a wanderlust
In the sunlit air
I saw a light on you
But it faded away
The lyrics of Jesse Marchant’s song Words Underlined beautifully depict the feeling of loneliness one experiences even in the midst of the chaos of a city. The singer is initially in a bad state, having woken to the sound of humans and the realization of his loneliness. The situation around him seems to be disintegrating, and he feels estranged from everything around him. He fears that he is letting go of everything he held dear. As he walks down the street, he wonders if anyone else feels the same way he does. He asks where the people who should have been there to lend a hand were when everything went awry. He draws attention to the underlined words in a book, perhaps signifying the importance of communication and understanding in times of turmoil.
As the song progresses, the singer reflects on a past relationship where the other person seemed to be struggling as well. However, the person destroyed the relationship with their wrongful acts. Despite this, the singer feels a sense of responsibility and tries to help, but the burden becomes too heavy to bear. The situation worsens, and the singer faces the weight of the decisions he made with the other person. He calls the other person a wounded lamb, someone who tried but couldn't win the battle. The singer feels like he is watching from afar, unable to help.
This song is a moving representation of the complexities of human relationships and the importance of communication in times of crisis. It highlights the need to ask for help and the emotional toll of trying to help others. The lyrics are filled with imagery, and the melody contrasts with the meaning of the words, leaving the listener with a haunting feeling of emptiness and loneliness.

From all the world around

Down the street
Further down the road
At once where worlds collide

And illuminate only you
In an effort strained
With a lot of effort
I stopped to find the line
I paused to figure out the best approach
Best ends the poem
The best way to conclude the poem
Where were you
Where were you when everything went wrong?
When all of this was fucked
When everything was messed up
And on it's side?
And out of balance?
Those words I underlined
Those particular words caught my attention and are important
In your part, you a wreck
You were a disaster in your part of the situation
You were one foot back
You were hesitant and not fully committed
Counting and weighing the odds
Calculating the risks and benefits
You were wrong for it love
You weren't suited for it, my dear
There was something there
Something significant existed, once
Now erased to black
Now gone, like words erased from a page
With the wrongful acts
Due to the hurtful things that were done
Of your warm lit half
Of the part of yourself that was loving and caring
You can't rely on me
You can't depend on me to fix things
To straighten you away
To lead you in the right direction
Now the weight
Now the burden
Of all that's fallen down
Of all that has gone wrong
Is mine alone
Is mine to bear alone
I see the way
I understand how
You watched your walk
You observed your own journey
Of blindness find a home
Of stubbornly refusing to see the truth
Well I know that change
I know that things can and will change
To let become as right
To allow things to be as they should be
What is known
What we already know to be true
I seen that letting go
I understand the importance of letting go
You a wounded lamb
You were hurt and vulnerable
In the parting wreck
In the aftermath of our separation
You couldn't win in the odds
You were unlikely to succeed
All your mournful love
All the love that was tinged with sadness
Into some thin air
Now gone and insubstantial
Well I was way in the isles
I was off somewhere else entirely
In a wanderlust
In a state of longing to travel and explore
In the sunlit air
Enjoying the warmth and light of the sun
I saw a light on you
I noticed something special about you
But it faded away
But it disappeared over time

When i listen this song, it reminds me when in the past i was in troubles because i was not strong enough to face my relantionship problems.
3 solutions. 1, trx to fix it. 2, drifting into the darkness of the depression. 3, erase myself.
I have not enough force to do the third, so i never stop to trying fixing if and the same time, get in the darkness alone to get myself stronger.
Now years have past. The situation is good. But if it comes back, i Will restart my life with someone else.
Everyone deserve hapiness !
