Wouldn't you think my collection's complete?
Wouldn't you think I'm the girl
The girl who has everything?
Look at this trove, treasures untold
How many wonders can one cavern hold?
Lookin' around here you'd think
Sure, she's got everything
I've got gadgets and gizmos aplenty
I've got whooz-its and whatz-its galore
You want thingamabobs?
I got twenty
But who cares?
No big deal
I want more
I want to be where the people are
I want to see
Want to see 'em dancing
Walking around on those
Whadd'ya call 'em? Oh, feet
Flipping your fins you don't get too far
Legs are required for jumping, dancing
Strolling along down a
What's that word again? Street
Up where they walk
Up where they run
Up where they stay all day in the sun
Wandering free
Wish I could be
Part of that world
What would I give
If I could live
Out of these waters?
What would I pay
To spend a day
Warm on the sand?
Betcha on land
They understand
That they don't reprimand their daughters
Bright young women
Sick of swimming
Ready to stand
And I'm ready to know what the people know
Ask 'em my questions
And get some answers
What's a fire and why does it
What's the word? Burn?
When's it my turn?
Wouldn't I love
Love to explore that shore above?
Out of the sea
Wish I could be
Part of that world
Out of the sea
Wish I could be
Part of your world
The song "Part of Your World" from the Little Mermaid soundtrack has been covered by numerous artists like Jessica Simpson. In this particular interpretation, the singer starts off by admiring her collection of treasures and asking if the listener thinks it's complete. She goes further to say that based on her collection, people should assume that she's the girl who has everything. The singer then looks around her and wonders how many wonders can be contained in one cavern.
In the second verse, the singer lists out various gadgets and gizmos that she has. She has an abundance of thingamabobs and whatchamacallits, and although she has a lot, she still wants more. She begins to express her desire to experience life outside the water and to be a part of the human world. She wants to be where the people are and to learn from them. She then asks a series of questions, like "what's a fire and why does it burn?" expressing her desire to interact and learn from humans.
The lyrics portray a common desire that most individuals have to experience life to the fullest without anything holding them back. It also expressed the idea that even those who appear to have it all are still seeking more in life. Jessica Simpson did a great job interpreting the song, and even without the visuals, the lyrics can take listeners on an emotional and reflective journey.

By FAR, the BEST version of ANY Disney theme. Her voice transcends longing, hopefulness, and yes.......even a little bit of loneliness. *Her 'soulful' ending is refreshing.*

This was my childhood! I used to listen to this CD all the time when I was a kid, it was my favorite! This is still my favorite cover of this song. She has a beautiful voice! The nostalgia is real! This album also has my favorite covers of Colors of the Wind (Ashanti) and You’ll be in my Heart (Usher)
