You Don'T Look The Same

your taking to long dad
weep cause she needs to see you can
before you fell you ran
all I hear are the same excuses
all you do is complain
she... she's like a cancer on my brain
no... nobodys's going to explain
the thoughts which you contain
all I hear are the same excuses all you do is complain
cause you don't look the same
cause you don't seem the same
cause you don't see what's going on
And I don't know why you can't lose, you lose
the rest of us we have to choose, we do
but you don't look the same
you don't seem the same
cause in my dreams you fall apart
you come and tell me who are you
the past is overdue
all I hear are the same excuses
all you do is complain
cause you don't look the same
and you don't seem the same
cause you don't see what's going on
In "You Don't Look the Same," Jet sings about a father who is distant and unwilling to connect emotionally with his daughter. The song opens with the daughter begging her father to speak plainly to her so that she can understand what he's feeling, but he is taking too long to do so. He needs to weep and show vulnerability so that his daughter can see that he's capable of feeling emotions before he falls apart. However, all he does is make the same excuses and complain, which indicates that he's unwilling to confront his problems.
The daughter, in turn, feels like a "cancer" on her father's brain. She is a constant source of worry and stress for him, but he doesn't communicate with her or seek help from anyone else. The daughter realizes that nobody is going to explain why her father is behaving this way, and she feels trapped by the negative thoughts that he's harboring. The song then repeats the central refrain that the father doesn't look, seem, or see the same as he used to.
Overall, "You Don't Look the Same" is a haunting reflection on the emotional distance that can grow between family members over time. It highlights the importance of honest communication and the dangers of bottling up one's feelings.

This is pretty good. I gotta say I miss the "Get Born" JET, though...that hard nosed rock & roll band that could still dip their toes into the indie/acoustic rock pool every now and then. They were one of my favorite bands.
