Barber won the Female Artist Recording of the Year award for her debut album "Oh Heart" at the 2005 Music Nova Scotia Awards. In 2007, Barber earned her fourth win as Best Female Local Solo Artist in The Coast’s annual "Best of Music Reader’s Poll", and her first win as Best Canadian Female Solo Artist for "For All Time".
Barber studied at Queen's University before pursuing her musical career full time. Her breakthrough "For All Time" was recorded & produced in Toronto by Les Cooper (who also performs as a multi-instrumentalist on the album), and features a number of Canada’s musicians; Bazil Donovan (Blue Rodeo) on bass and Blake Manning (Sarah Slean, Kim Stockwood) on drums. Guest appearances include a vocal performance by Jim Cuddy (Blue Rodeo) on Don’t Go Easy, guitar by singer/songwriter Luke Doucet, piano and clarinet performances by Spencer Evans (Sarah Harmer) and a duet with her brother Matthew Barber. The album was mixed by Andre Wahl (Hawksley Workman, Anne Murray) and mastered by Chris Potter (Sarah McLachlan, Rufus Wainwright). Further albums include "A Note to Follow So", "Oh Heart", and "For All Time".
In 2008, Barber released "Chances", a jazz album with full orchestral arrangements which was partially co-written with her producer Les Cooper, while also collaborating on several songs with Canadian musician Ron Sexsmith.
She followed up with the album ""Mischievous Moon", released through Outside Music in 2011. Barber won the SiriusXM 2012 Jazz Artist of the Year award, as well as the 2013 Western Canadian Francophone Album of the Year for ""Chansons".
Her solo album, ""Metaphora", was released in June 2018. She followed up with another French-language album, ""Entre nous", in 2020, and with ""Homemaker" in 2023.

All My Dreams
Jill Barber Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
That it would make me fall in love
But what do I do
Now that all my dreams have come true?
I used to gaze under them stary skies
An′ now I gaze into my lover's eyes
That′s what I do
The moon up high let out a sigh
An' made my wish come true
Now what do I do
Thank my lucky stars that brought me here to you.
Instrumental--------------------------
Under the covers
Tucked in tight
Kissin' you, an′ wishin′ you
Sweet dreams all through the night
An' now I dream each night an′ every day
Whether I'm asleep or wide awake
That′s what I do
Now that all my dreams have come true
That's what I do
Now that all my dreams have come true
Jill Barber’s “All My Dreams” describes the singer’s dreams and their relationship to reality. In the first verse, she explains that she used to dream under the stars, hoping that doing so would make her fall in love. However, now that she has achieved her dream of being in love, she wonders what she should do next. In the second verse, the singer is looking into her lover’s eyes, replacing the nights she spent gazing under the stars. The moon, which she once wished upon, made her dream of love come true. Now that it has, she thanks her lucky stars for bringing her to her lover.
Overall, the song suggests that dreams can come true, but what do you do after you've achieved them? When you've been dreaming of something for a long time, whether it's love, success, or something else, it can be disorienting when it finally happens. Life goes on, and the thrill of achievement fades into the background. The singer's solution seems to be to keep dreaming, to find new things to look forward to, whether awake or asleep, now that her longstanding dreams have come true.
In conclusion, the lyrics of “All My Dreams” are a reminder that dreaming and striving are important for personal fulfillment, but there comes a time when one must determine what to do next when one's dreams come true.
