Shadows
Jillian Aversa Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Figures moving under the rain...
I see glowing streetlights, blurring the pain.
Children on the corner,
Staring as I drive away,
Hand prints on the window -
They all fade to gray.

Have you ever seen a shadow?
Have you ever known what they know?
Have you ever seen a shadow,
And left one behind?
And left one behind?..

Shifting, changing, never the same,
And the cold wind wonders how they became.
Wishing for an answer,
Hoping one day it'll change,
Praying for the flesh and the blood to fill them.

Have you ever seen a shadow?
Have you ever known what they know?
Have you ever seen a shadow,
And left one behind?
And left one behind?..

Have you ever seen a shadow?
Have you ever known what they know?
Have you ever seen a shadow,

And left one behind?
And left one behind?..

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the song Shadows by Jillian Aversa are about the fleeting moments and memories that make up our lives. The first verse is about the passing of time, with "figures moving under the rain" representing the constant motion of life. The streetlights, "blurring the pain", symbolize the highs and lows of life that come and go quickly. The children on the corner and handprints on the window represent the memories we leave behind, but ultimately they all fade away.

The second verse continues with the theme of change and the unknowable nature of life. The shadow is described as "shifting, changing, never the same", and the cold wind wonders how they came to be. The singer expresses a wish for answers and for things to change, but prayers go unanswered. The repeated refrain of "Have you ever seen a shadow? Have you ever known what they know?" reinforces the idea that our experiences and memories are elusive, and that we may never fully understand them.

Overall, the song Shadows is a reflection on the ephemeral nature of life and the fleeting moments that make it up. The shadow serves as a metaphor for the things we leave behind, and the ultimate unknowability of our experiences.

This kind of music makes me go back to the 2000s...

Quickly becoming my favorite artist! I eagerly await your next work! Jillian's singing really is wonderful and makes me, a person who doesn't really sing, want to sing loud and proud. <3

Mechagirl Sachiko

This is my favorite Zircon track, with difference. It's so melancholic, its message so powerful... This may be personal bias, but when I listen to it, I can't help but imagine the predicaments of the millions of homeless people that currently try to survive as well as they humanly can.

Just letting you know Zircon, I'm a huge fan and have been for about a year and a half now. Slowly I have seen your evolution as a musician and I find it amazing. They say you can only get better with time and your doing better then ever. Jillian's voice complements the soothing song perfectly. And by the way, I have told at least 50 people about you in the past week. I'll do my best to keep spreading the word, you deserve to be big.

You're always an inspiration, Zircon. And Jillian's voice is always amazing! I bought Antigravity and I can tell I'm going to be buying this one, too. Thanks for doing the awesome stuff you do.

Aurorious

Got this way back when it was free (as an unreleased on your site) and im buying it again just to support you. One of the best songs you've ever made. Any chance at an instrumental version (with a synth playing the melody). I would guess it's so old that it would be difficult to find the project file, but if you could it would be much appreciated :) Now waiting relatively impatiently for The End to be released (i think that's what it was called on the contest page).
